Don't be "that guy" and get your 2026 alternative vehicle registration sticker. All UTV, ATV and golfcarts need to have one to operate on city streets. Drivers must have a current driver's license and obey all traffic laws. Stickers are $10 and must provide proof of insurance.

New Year’s campaign stresses the importance of driving sober

New Year’s Eve is one of the deadliest days of the year for drunk driving.

Minneapolis Police Department joins law enforcement across the state to provide education about the importance of driving sober. Drivers can expect to see increased law enforcement presence on local roads during the statewide Taking Down DUI campaign, which runs Dec. 26-Jan. 2.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, every day about 34 people in the United States die in drunk-driving crashes — that’s one person every 42 minutes. These deaths were all preventable.

If you’re drinking, don’t drive. Being a responsible driver is simple:
• Plan a safe ride home before the party. If you drink, don’t drive, call a ride-share, taxi or a sober friend.
• If someone has been drinking, take their keys and arrange a sober ride home.
• If you see an impaired driver, contact local law enforcement.

Our hearts and prayers go out to Scott's family and Hays Police Department.

REST IN PEACE 💙 Sgt. Scott Heimann with the Hays Police Department was shot and killed while responding to a domestic violence incident over the weekend. He is the fourth Kansas police officer killed in the line of duty in the last three months.

The police officers got deputized early this week. This is a great thing. We are able to assist deputies and respond to emergencies if we are closer until a deputy arrives. I look forward to our departments to continue to work together.
