Mark your calendar for Fiber Art for All: Tributary, February 19 + 20, 2027, our yearly winter celebration of all things fiber art. 🌀🌊🛶

Each year as a part of this special celebration, we create a community art piece together. This year, help us create River Walk, a patchwork river made up of all kinds of fiber art techniques.

A river grows more powerful and enriched by its many sources. The tributaries — the many creeks and streams that feed into the Mississippi River — begin their journeys far and wide. From forests and plains, from headwaters in Minnesota all the way out to distant states, their paths come together in beautiful confluence. Just as a river has its tributaries, Textile Center has our community — you! — the many people and perspectives that make our organization and home more vibrant.

We invite everyone, of all ages and skill levels, to participate in adding to our River Walk installation, representing the many ways we use and love our Minnesota rivers!

Use your favorite fiber art technique to reflect something about the river that you love: its waves of blues, your favorite water activity (like fishing, swimming, boating), or the plants and animals that call it home. Your piece can be any shape and size 8” and under, 2D or 3D (under 1.5” deep).

Need some inspiration? Take a walk along the river and see what you notice! Look for the creatures you see, the flowers that grow, and the colors of the always-changing waters.

Drop off your completed textile tribute at Textile Center any time between now and February 2, 2027, and we’ll secure your textile tributes to a beautiful, sprawling River Walk installation. Then join us at our confluence, Fiber Art for All, to see the reveal of this communal work of art!

Special youth + family opportunity! 🧵📚 Join us in welcoming local author Monica Rojas to Textile Center for a special reading and signing of her newly published children’s book, “Patchwork Memories.”

This bilingual picture book tells a story about how quilts can hold and carry family memories, and the love and shared experiences that bring families together, even in the hardest of times. This event is free and open to the public!

Event schedule:
4 pm: Meet + Greet, Make a “quilted” bookmark activity for kids
4:30 – 5 pm: Book reading
5 – 6 pm: Book signing, Make a “quilted” bookmark activity for kids

Thanks for joining us last week for our 2nd annual Llama Fest!! ✨🦙 We had a blast celebrating with people of all ages.

When our team dreamed up bringing llamas to Textile Center last year for our summer campers in the Farm to Fabric summer camp, we thought… may as well make a day of it for our whole community! And you all showed up, so we’ll be doing it again next year!

An added bonus? Surprising our neighbors passing by on a walk 😂 “Wait, what? This is the most random and best detour from our plans for the day.”

Llama Fest is this Friday, August 28, from 12 - 2 pm at Textile Center! Here's everything you need to know!

Today, as a part of our 𝘼 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙤𝙣 𝙏𝙝𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙙 𝙎𝙥𝙤𝙩𝙡𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙎𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙨, we hear from one of our newer member artists, 𝗞𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗿𝘆𝗻 𝗝𝗮𝗵𝗻𝗸𝗲! Kathi Jahnke

𝗧𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗺𝗲 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗶𝗲𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗔 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗼𝗻 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗯𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝘁.

𝙈𝙮𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙦𝙪𝙚 is a whole cloth quilted work. The image was inkjet printed onto cotton, machine stitched and hand beaded. The imagery is a digital blend of two original photos, one of an old red door with a porthole window and the other, a photo of plants. The colors and imagery in the digitally blended composition brought to mind a distant island, waiting to be explored.

My love of photography and stitching, whether by machine or hand. The process of creating each work is soothing to my soul!

As a new resident of Minnesota, I am delighted that I found out about Textile Center, became a member, and now have the opportunity to participate in this exhibition!

Today, as a part of our 𝘼 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙤𝙣 𝙏𝙝𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙙 𝙎𝙥𝙤𝙩𝙡𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙎𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙨, we hear from member artist Katherine Waymire! Katherine Waymire │ Fiber Artist

𝗧𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗺𝗲 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗶𝗲𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗔 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗼𝗻 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗯𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝘁.
My work begins with curiosity — discovering unexpected materials and exploring the forms they naturally want to become. I handwove 𝙁𝙡𝙤𝙬 on a rigid-heddle loom using stainless steel and silk. The stainless steel provides strength and structural memory, while the silk introduces softness and movement. The piece was inspired by the quiet moments when I feel both strong and soft, even amid the chaos and violence of the world. I believe resilience isn’t always rigid. Sometimes it is the ability to remain true to ourselves while continuing to move forward with openness and grace.
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗶𝗲𝗰𝗲?
I hope viewers pause long enough to ask themselves: When am I most in flow? What helps me stay there? Where do I need more strength, and where might I benefit from more softness?

𝗜𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝗹𝘀𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂’𝗱 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗶𝗲𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗿 𝗳𝗶𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹?
Fiber is an incredibly versatile medium. It can be structural, sculptural, delicate, or unexpected. I hope my work encourages people to look beyond traditional ideas of weaving and see fiber as a contemporary art form capable of expressing complex ideas through material, form, and movement.
