📣You do not have to go to the polls on election day to cast your ballot. 🗳

Voting early, also called “absentee” voting, allows you to vote before November 3. As Minnesota has “no-excuse” absentee voting, any registered voter can request a ballot without needing a specific reason.

To vote early do the following:

1. Request your absentee ballot here from the Minnesota SOS website: https://www.sos.mn.gov/elections-voting/
It is recommended that you do this by October 20.

2. Follow the directions exactly to ensure your ballot is counted. You will need a witness when voting and completing your ballot. The witness must be either a U.S. citizen at least 18 years old or a notary public, who is often available at a bank.

3. Return your ballot as soon as possible. All ballots must be received by election day (November 3, 2026 for the general election) or it will not be counted.

Select one of these three ways to return your ballot:

✔Mail it back at least 7 days before election day using the pre-addressed postage paid envelope provided.

or

✔Drop it off in-person at your local election office. Minneapolis residents can return their ballot before November 3, to Minneapolis Election and Voter Services, 980 E. Hennepin Ave. On November 3, you can return your ballot to 980 E Hennepin Ave location or to Hennepin County Government Center at the Skyway level, 300 6th Ave. S.

or

✔Have someone return it for you at your local election office. This person will need to provide identification and a signature.

To be sure your ballot was received, check your ballot status online on the Minnesota SOS website: https://www.sos.mn.gov/elections-voting/

One last rule to remember: you cannot return your ballot to a polling place on election day. You need to return it to your local election office.

Attention youth!

ELEFA will host a Youth Community Meeting on Thursday, September 3rd at the Brian Coyle Neighborhood Center. This meeting will inform and engage young Minneapolis residents in the Settlement Agreement process and provide a space for young people to discuss the issues that matter most to them regarding policing and public safety.

They will provide food at 5:30 and the meeting will begin at 6:00, ending at 8:00.

Learn more about the MN School Fund Constitutional Amendment Ballot Measure on Thursday evening!

Please join us for a webinar to learn about the Permanent School Fund Constitutional Amendment Ballot Measure that will be on Minnesotans’ ballot during the November 3 General Election. It is important that LWVMN members are equipped with basic knowledge about the ballot measure and to point voters to appropriate state and local school district sources of information regarding it during our fall voter service work.

Denise Dittrick and Kimberley Dunn Lewis from the MN School Boards Association will present nonpartisan information regarding the ballot measure, which passed the Minnesota State legislature this past session with strong bipartisan support.

This webinar will be recorded and posted on YouTube for public viewing. Attendees are encouraged to pose questions in the chat during the webinar for Denise and Kim to answer after the presentation.

We celebrated Women's Equity Day with our friend Betty Folliard from ERAMN Check out the this recording where Betty takes us through the history of women’s rights and the Equal Rights Amendment, from the fight for suffrage to the decades-long campaign for the federal ERA. She then explains the current effort to pass a Minnesota Equal Rights Amendment, what it would guarantee, and how Minnesotans can take action to help move the amendment forward. As Betty reminds us, the ERA is about equality for all - and the march continues.

Betty served in the Minnesota Legislature from 1997 to 2003 and has spent decades working to advance constitutional equality for women.
