Come to the Pow Wow on Full Moon
Friday, September 13, 2019
Meet at St. Peter’s Church Grounds, Hwy 13 in Mendota
1405 Sibley Memorial Hwy, Mendota MN
At 5 pm sharp we will light the Sacred Fire and share Coldwater Water.
Bring a lawn chair to sit on and a food item for the potluck feast. Women are asked to wear skirts. See the flyer below.
The September full moon celebration coincides with the opening ceremony of the Mendota Dakota 20th anniversary Pow Wow. Full moon walks have been held every month at Coldwater since 2000 but this moon is different. We will take sacred Coldwater water to the Mendota Dakota community.
The Pow Wow itself begins on Saturday (9/14) with Grand Entry at 1 pm and runs until 9:30 pm. On Sunday (9/15) the Pow Wow is celebrated from 1 to 5:30 pm followed by the feast. People are asked for a $5 entry button donation (but no one turned away).
Besides people-watching and fry bread, Indian tacos, Native handicrafts for sale and the sound of the drum echoing throughout the day, all nations are welcome to dance. Bring a chair or blanket to sit on. Women are asked to wear a skirt in respect while dancing or just bring (or purchase) a shawl to wrap around your waist.
Friends of Coldwater might consider signing up for a 1 or 2-hour shift at the Coldwater Booth at the Pow Wow on Saturday or Sunday between 12:30 and 5:30 pm. It’s a great people-watching view from our booth at the Pow Wow and a pleasant sit-down-&-chat job, especially if you bring your own chair. Please reply to this volunteer opportunity at: [email protected]
This is the first full moon in 19 years that we haven’t met at Coldwater.
Sunset 7:28 pm (1 hour, 8 minutes earlier than the previous full moon)
Moonrise 7:44 pm (1 hour, 41 minutes earlier than last month’s full moon)
Exact minute of full moon 11:33 pm
Note: If your calendar was printed on the US East Coast it will put the full moon 33 minutes into Saturday, but for the rest of the country full moon is on Friday the 13th.
