Oak Park Center

Oak Park Youth and Family Center is a hub for quality support resources that enrich the academic, social, and emotional success of residents living in the Near North Side neighborhood of Minneapolis. Oak Park Youth and Family Center focuses on the spirit of youth and families in the Near North neighborhood by offering exciting opportunities and vital resources for youth in grades kindergarten through 12th, parents, grandparents and families as a whole. Oak Park Youth and Family Center has been a gathering place for the community since 1937. Today, we're helping to attack racial disparities in academic achievement while supporting the needs of historically underestimated, isolated, and underserved adults, youth and families in our area. Oak Park Youth and Family Center is uniquely positioned to address issues facing North Minneapolis because of its highly visible, centrally located facility, which has provided community services for over 75 years. We strive to build strong relationships with families through the programs we offer and the community outreach activities we sponsor. We currently work with youth, parents, individuals and families, providing quality services, including afterschool programs focusing on S.T.E.A.M. (science, technology, engineering, arts and math), college and career preparation, computer classes, monthly food and produce giveaways and programs like Boys Scouts, Junior Entrepreneurs, Parent Network, and the Crisis Nursery. At Oak Park Youth and Family Center we believe that by working together, our neighborhood can be free of violence and we can create a culture where youth and adults help one another, more children graduate from college and where adults and families are thriving in the community.

Did you know that following the 2010 census, North Minneapolis lost a city council seat? So, not only does an undercount = underresourced, but it also = underrepresentation. We cannot afford to let this happen again.

Take 5 minutes to strengthen your community today by completing your census form online at www.my2020census.gov. Or, if you have any questions or concerns and would like assistance filling it out in person, swing by My North Market at these times:

Friends, neighbors, community —

We need you. We are continuing to operate our food shelves and community meals programs at 3 of our Minneapolis centers despite closing down the rest of our programming.

Unsurprisingly, we have seen an increased amount of folks coming to receive food and only expect that number to continue rising with the closure of schools, restaurants and loss of jobs.

Due to safety concerns, we have had to adapt these programs to ensure the health of our staff and community members. This entails packaging our cafe meals in 'to-go' containers (doubling the costs of these meals) and providing items from our Waite House and Brian Coyle Center food shelves as grab-and-go bags. Because of this, we are asking for your financial support.

Please help us meet the scaled up needs of operations by making a donation today. Your $1 allows us to purchase $7 worth of food. Thank you for helping support our communities at this critical time. Truly when we show up, we show up together.

Donate here --> https://pillsburyunited.org/covid19/

**Any gifts made will be partially matched by the Minnesota FoodShare March Campaign.**

WE COUNT! 2020 Census Door Knock

Volunteers needed on March 21!
Money. Power. Data. This is what the Census is about. Every 10 years the government counts every person living in this country to determine how BILLIONS of dollars and political power are distributed.

But communities can lose out big time if they are under counted. The 2010 Census resulted in a loss of a City Council seat, impacting the power our Northside community has, for the next decade.

This is why we need volunteers on March 21 to help encourage Northsiders to complete the Census. Please sign up below to help ensure all North Minneapolis residents are counted. #WeCount #Census2020

WE COUNT! 2020 Census Door Knock

In the 2010 Census, North Minneapolis was under-counted by about 7,000 people, resulting in the loss of about $109 million dollars -- money that could have gone into fixing our roads, updating our parks, funding our schools, and making sure our children's bellies are full. Let's not let that happen again!

Join #WeCount 2020 Coalition members on March 21st as we head out across the Northside to make sure our community is counted in the 2020 Census. We need to let our government know that #WeCount, that our communities count, and that we matter.

Let’s make sure everyone is counted. Sign up to volunteer here: https://forms.gle/jeBq44ifDn6xCVKD9 Training and refreshments will be provided.

Coalition Members include:
Asian American Organizing Project (AAOP)
Coalition of Asian American Leaders - CAAL (CAAL)
City of Minneapolis Government
and more!

Greetings Village!
Pillsbury United Communities has a tradition of coordinating with families in need to ensure they have a wonderful and less stressful holiday season by providing them with toys for their children. This year, our usual donation partners have run into their own fundraising challenges. PUC is still in need of 130 toys for boys and girls ages 8-14. (We have lots of little kid toys.)

1. If you are able to donate toys, please drop them off at either Oak Park Center (1701 Oak Park Ave N, Mpls, MN 55411) or Waite House (2323 11th Ave S) between 9:00-5:00 Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday next week (2:00-6:00 this Sunday is also available at Oak Park - Our Director, Antonio Cardona, will be waiting for you with coffee and cookies!)

2. If you would rather donate monetarily, please fill out the donation form on PUC's website and indicate the money is for 'Toys for Tots' (https://www.puc-mn.org/donation-form). PUC staff will then purchase gifts on your behalf to be distributed at the end of next week.

3. Jump on your favorite online store and send toys to our Oak Park address Attention: TOYS

Thank you very much for considering a donation to help the kids of Minneapolis have a great holiday season.
