Another home, another beginning.

PRG, Inc.’s new construction home in North Minneapolis has officially sold, and we had the chance to celebrate Jalain and Portia as they closed on their first home.

Behind this moment is a lot of hard work. The planning. The waiting. The decision to keep going.

After sharing photos from our 50th anniversary shoot, we’ve been thinking about what it takes to get there.

It’s the budgeting, the waiting, and the second guessing. The decision to keep going even when the process feels long or uncertain.

And then, one day, it comes together.

At PRG, we’re proud to support people along the way through counseling, education, and guidance. But the real credit belongs to the homeowners who put in the work and stayed committed.

Buying your first home is not easy. It takes time, planning, and a lot of determination.

PRG, Inc. joined partners at Minnesota Housing’s Closing the Gap Conference.

Kirstin Burch shared reflections on PRG’s work, including how we’ve always stepped in at the invitation of, and in response to, the community, and what we’ve learned bringing education, development, and down payment assistance together through our partnerships.

It was also great to have PRG staff there, learning from leaders across the field who are bringing creativity and new thinking to a complex challenge.

Grateful for the invitation and the chance to be in conversation. Let’s keep pushing this work forward together.

For 50 years, PRG, Inc. has shown up for families working toward homeownership, especially in moments when the path forward is uncertain.

Our 50 Years, 50 Voices series is all about the people behind that work.

This story features Kathy Wetzel-Mastel.

Kathy first joined PRG, Inc. in 2000 as a project manager. In 2009, she stepped into the Executive Director role during the housing crisis, helping guide the organization through one of the most challenging moments in its history.

That experience helped shape PRG’s commitment to closing the homeownership gap and how it supports families today, with a focus on stability, guidance, and meeting people where they are.

Over the next 15 years, she helped rebuild the organization and guide it forward.

In this video, Kathy shares her story, the work she’s most proud of, and advice for anyone thinking about starting their homeownership journey.
