We are heartbroken to have to tell you that, according the Sioux falls police department, 14 year old McKenna Wendel has been located deceased.

She was only 14 years old. We grieve with all who loved her. Our thanks go out to all who searched for her. We need to do better for our children. As the search for McKenna turns to mourning and loss, we can't forget that the search for justice has also begun.

Law enforcement has not yet released details in this case. We also pray that however this happened, however a 14 year old child was lost to her family, we learn the facts, and bring justice. Not only bringing anyone who may be responsible to face justice, but to also address whatever circumstances that made a 14 year old child vulnerable to this outcome.

Please, anyone who knows anything, tell what you know.

We ask that people not speculate on this case in our comments, that they not point fingers and blame in public. Please, just contact the authorities if you have information.
Protect the investigation, those who mourn, and the memory of this precious soul. Use this space instead to comfort the grieving, support the heartbroken, and honor this child's short existence and beautiful spirit.

We have to do better for our children, and that starts with how we search, how we grieve, and how we bring justice.
