Thank you to Guardian Angel Community Services for being a guest speaker at our club meeting. For those who may not know, GACS has been changing and saving lives since 1897! They believe “in the inalienable human right to live and work safely, free from violence, oppression, and abuse.”

We also learned about the Groundwork Domestic Violence Program that was established in 1983. Groundwork provides supportive and professional services that includes a 24 hour confidential hotline, emergency shelter, crisis intervention, safety planning, counseling and more! All Groundwork services are free and confidential.

Thank you for presenting, educating, and bringing awareness. The video you shared was also extremely impactful.

Thank you to Wilmington VFW Post 5422 Honor Guard Member, Jeff Hanley, for presenting to our Rotary Club of Channahon-Minooka.

Your presentation on who the Honor Guard is and what they do was very insightful. For those who may not know, this special group of Honor Guard members perform a military funeral that includes a rifle volley, taps, and the presentation of a folded flag to the surviving loved one of the veteran at either the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery or at other local cemeteries.

Jeff, we appreciate you for spending some time with us and sharing your Honor Guard member experience with us.

THANK YOU to all military members who have served our country with unwavering dedication and loyalty.

Grateful for the opportunity to present to my fellow Rotarians at Rotary Club of Channahon-Minooka about the Homes for Heroes program and the impact it has in our communities.

Homes for Heros is designed to give back to the people who serve us every day: Firefighters/EMS, Law Enforcement, Military (active, reserves, veterans), Healthcare Professionals, and Teachers.
The program provides cashback rewards for heroes through the home buying, selling, or refinancing process.

Guided by the Rotary motto, “Service Above Self,” it was a privilege to share how Homes for Heros supports the very individuals who dedicate their lives to serving others. This program serves as a tangible ‘thank you’ for the incredible work that heroes do to protect, educate and care for our communities.

This week, the MCHS Interact Club held its inaugural IMPACT Conference and several members from Rotary Club of Channahon-Minooka were there to support and participate.

There were forty-six students in attendance. They collected food for local micro pantries, interacted with their peers through ice breakers, attended sessions on a variety of leadership topics, participated in a whole-group service activity for Shorewood H.U.G.S., and ended the day by brainstorming ideas for a service week at the high school in March. Fun was had by all. What an amazing and enthusiastic group.

One of our very own was a guest speaker at our meeting: Rotary Club of Channahon-Minooka Club President and Executive Director of the Three Rivers Public Library District Laurie O gave a wonderful presentation about all things library related.

From the history of both branches, the growth the branches have seen, to all of the amazing activities they host, the services they provide, what the future holds for Channahon and Minooka libraries, and their upcoming fundraiser. It was jam packed and we learned so much. Thanks Laurie!

Always thankful to have guests attend and present at our Rotary meetings. Our first guest speaker this month was Greg Peerbolte from the Joliet Area Historical Museum. We learned so much about the JAHM, the Joliet railroad museum, the old Joliet prison, and Route 66. Did you know that the very first Dairy Queen opened in Joliet in 1940?
