❄️ WINTER STORM SAFETY MESSAGE ❄️

A major winter storm is impacting large parts of the U.S. The National Association of State Fire Marshals (NASFM) urges everyone to take steps now to stay safe.

πŸ”₯ Keep space heaters at least 3 feet from anything that can burn
⚠️ Never use ovens, grills, or generators to heat your home
🚨 Make sure smoke alarms and CO alarms are working
πŸ•―οΈ Avoid candlesβ€”use flashlights when possible
πŸ”Œ Prepare for power outages with flashlights, batteries, and warm clothing
πŸš— Avoid travel unless absolutely necessary

Cold weather increases the risk of fires and carbon monoxide poisoning. Preparation and safe choices save lives.

Stay warm. Stay informed. Stay safe.

Power outages can happen at any time, including during winter storms, heavy snowfall, or downed utility lines.

Portable generators can be a temporary solution for powering appliances, but they emit carbon monoxide (CO), a poisonous gas.

The risk is real:
β€’ Portable generator incidents lead to preventable CO poisonings every year
β€’ The most dangerous setup: generators used too close to the home or in/near garages

Use generators safely:
βœ… Outdoors only
βœ… 20 feet (7 metres) from doors, windows, vents
βœ… Never in an attached garage (even with the door open)
βœ… Exhaust directed away from the building

Have a teenager that's "so bored"? Or maybe at this point they are so attached to their phone that they dont even know if it is still snowing outside? Send them outside for a 5 minute cleanup of the nearest fire hydrant. Your neighbors and the fire department will thank you if they need to use the hydrant in this cold weather!

As winter weather sets in, we urge our residents to participate in clearing snow from fire hydrants adjacent to their homes or businesses. We would be grateful if a 2-3 foot perimeter around the hydrant could be cleared to enable prompt access in the event of an emergency.
