🚨 Air Quality Alert – Please Take Precautions Today 🚨

Oscoda County residents: please be aware that air quality conditions today may be unhealthy due to elevated levels of fine particulate matter from wildfire smoke moving into our area. Sensitive groups — including children, older adults, and those with asthma, COPD, heart conditions, or other respiratory concerns — should take extra precautions. (Michigan.gov)

To help protect yourself and your family:

✅ Limit prolonged or strenuous outdoor activities when possible
✅ Keep windows and doors closed if smoke levels increase
✅ Run your air conditioning if available (use recirculation mode if possible)
✅ Avoid outdoor burning until conditions improve
✅ Check on neighbors, family members, and those who may be more vulnerable
✅ Pay attention to symptoms such as coughing, throat irritation, wheezing, shortness of breath, or chest discomfort

If you must be outside, take frequent breaks and listen to your body. If you experience severe breathing difficulty, chest pain, confusion, or a medical emergency — call 911.

Our crews are here when you need us, but today is a good reminder that prevention and preparation are some of the best tools we have. Stay safe, stay hydrated, and take care of one another. ❤️

🌡️ Oscoda County Weather Alert: Prolonged Heat Expected This Week

A stretch of very hot and humid weather is expected across northern Michigan this week, with heat indices potentially climbing into the triple digits on some days. These conditions can become dangerous quickly, especially for older adults, young children, individuals with chronic health conditions, and anyone working or spending extended time outdoors.

⚠️ Take the heat seriously.
High temperatures combined with humidity can lead to:
• Heat exhaustion
• Heat stroke (a medical emergency)
• Dehydration
• Worsening breathing problems for those with asthma, COPD, or other respiratory illnesses
• Increased strain on the heart

Help protect yourself and your family by:
💧 Drinking plenty of water—even if you don’t feel thirsty.
🏠 Spending time in air-conditioned buildings whenever possible.
👒 Wearing lightweight, light-colored clothing.
⏰ Limiting strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day (generally noon to 6:00 PM).
👵 Checking on elderly neighbors, family members, and anyone who may not have adequate cooling.
🚗 Never leaving children or pets unattended in a vehicle, even for a few minutes.

⛈️ In addition to the heat, there are periodic chances for thunderstorms throughout the week. Some storms could become strong, so keep an eye on the forecast and be prepared to seek shelter if severe weather develops.

As always, if you experience signs of heat-related illness—such as dizziness, confusion, rapid pulse, nausea, or difficulty breathing—move to a cooler place immediately, begin cooling down, and call 911 if symptoms are severe.

Please stay weather aware, take precautions, and look out for one another. A little preparation can prevent a serious emergency.

Stay safe, Oscoda County! ☀️💙

❤️🚑 A Message from Oscoda County EMS 🚑❤️

As you complete your ballot this year, please remember that the EMS Operations and EMS Equipment proposals are renewals of existing millages—not new millages and not tax increases.

These renewals help us continue providing emergency medical care with two fully staffed ambulances stationed in Mio and Fairview, ready when you need us most.

As many of you have already noticed, the two Oscoda County EMS proposals appear on the ballot among several other county proposals. We respectfully ask that you consider the EMS proposals on their own merits and support the emergency medical services that our community relies on every day.

Thank you for your continued trust and support.

❤️🚑 With your support, Oscoda County EMS continues to provide:

🚑 Two fully staffed ambulances, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week

📍 One stationed in Mio

📍 One stationed in Fairview

❤️ Emergency medical care for residents, visitors, friends, neighbors, and family members throughout our county
