๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ NEW: U.S. Flag Retirement Drop-Off Box

We are excited to announce that a permanent U.S. Flag Retirement Drop-Off Box is now available at Veterans Memorial Park in Mio!

Community members may place worn, torn, or tattered American flags in the box, where they will be collected by Oscoda County Veterans Affairs and coordinated for respectful retirement.

This project was made possible through a great community partnership. Veterans Memorial Park provided the flag retirement box, and Flocking Fabulous generously donated the custom graphics that turned it into the beautiful box you see today.

Oscoda County Veterans Affairs will maintain the collection box and coordinate the proper retirement of the flags received.

A huge thank you to Fabulous Prints for donating her time and work to this project, and to Veterans Memorial Park for helping make a permanent flag retirement location available to our community.

If you have an American flag that is no longer suitable for display, you now have a convenient local place to ensure it is treated with the dignity and respect it deserves. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Vet Tip Tuesday

Keep your important military documents somewhere you can actually find them.

Your DD-214 is one of the most important documents youโ€™ll need when applying for many veteran benefits and services.

Canโ€™t find yours? Donโ€™t assume youโ€™re out of luck. There are ways to request military service records, and our office can help point you in the right direction.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Veteran Resource Spotlight: VETLIFE

OCVA recently had the opportunity to connect with VETLIFE and learn more about the resources they are building for veterans and military families.

VETLIFE is a veteran-focused nonprofit working to make it easier for veterans and their families to find trusted guidance, practical resources, community connections, and support.

Their website includes free guides and tools, wellness resources, programs for veterans and military families, benefits information, and their free Battle Buddy app.

There is quite a bit to explore, and we'll be highlighting some of these individual resources over the coming weeks.
