Chairing the relaunch of the City of Miramar’s Sister Cities International initiative has definitely been a challenge, but surely a rewarding one. One way that we can demonstrate gratitude for the progress and diversity in our City is by paying it forward to inspire, support, and uplift the next community. With almost a year of strategizing, structuring, and advocating, we have laid the framework and pathway for an amazing 2024 achievements to come.

All of us remember a time when an emergency situation or a natural disaster changed our life. Yet, not enough of us have access to developing, expanding and stregthening our skills to respond and take action.

My FEMA experience has always involved handling emergencies on the public affairs end, but now I am proud to have taken on the opportunity to serve amongst the Community Emergency Response Team - and of course, there was no better place to take this training than right here with my Miramar family.

This Mother’s Day, I honor the moms who are trailblazing - working day in and day out to redefine what it is to be a mother in our society. The mothers who pull it together every day all on their own, the mothers who bravely venture to become a mom and still maintain themselves as a whole and complete individual simultaneously, the mothers who pursue their version of perfect parenting while still chasing their dreams and goals, the mothers who venture to bring a tiny plus one to the board meeting creating new narratives for women who lead, and the mothers who boldly exhibit REAL LIFE motherhood and proudly stand tall in every imperfection, every frustration, and every challenge - conquering it all day by day. Drowning is the leading cause of death for children ages 1-4 in Broward County and we have to do what we can to combat tragic losses and keep our kids safe. Water Smart Broward works in our communities to provide water education, CPR and safety training, equitable access to water facilities, lessons for survival skills, and more. The Broward County Cultural Division includes the county's Public Art & Design program, as well as grant programs that provide over $4.5 million in annual support for Broward-based cultural organizations and artists, and engages the community in education and advocacy initiatives that support arts education at the local, state and federal levels.

Serving alongside local artists to help direct and prioritize the county’s investment in creatives is a task that comes with challenges, but continues to grow into a remarkable passion project for me with each year that I have been given the opportunity to serve.
