๐๐ ๐ฆ๐ง๐๐๐. Two words that challenge how we think about leadership.
Leadership demands action. Solve the problem. Address the conflict. Make the decision. Take control.
But what if the most powerful response is to ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐น๐ฒ๐ฎ๐๐ฒ ๐๐ผ๐๐ฟ ๐ด๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฝ?
Psalm 46:10 says, โBe still, and know that I am God.โ
The Hebrew word ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ฝ๐ต๐ฎ๐ต (be still) means to loosen, let go, or cease striving. Picture a soldier lowering their weapon rather than continuing to fight.
๐๐ฒ๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐๐๐ถ๐น๐น ๐ฑ๐ผ๐ฒ๐๐ปโ๐ ๐บ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ป ๐ฑ๐ผ๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ป๐ผ๐๐ต๐ถ๐ป๐ด. ๐๐ ๐บ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ป๐ ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐น๐ฒ๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐ป๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐๐ผ ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ ๐๐ผ ๐๐ฒ ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ป ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐๐ฝ๐ผ๐ป๐ฑ ๐๐ถ๐๐ต ๐๐ถ๐๐ฑ๐ผ๐บ.

1. ๐ฅ๐ฒ๐น๐ฒ๐ฎ๐๐ฒ ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐ณ๐ฒ๐ป๐๐ถ๐๐ฒ๐ป๐ฒ๐๐. Listen to understand, not simply to respond.
2. ๐ฅ๐ฒ๐๐ถ๐๐ ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐๐ถ๐๐ฒ ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ถ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐. Urgency doesn't always require an immediate response. Create space for wisdom before taking action.
3. ๐ฅ๐ฒ๐น๐ถ๐ป๐พ๐๐ถ๐๐ต ๐ฐ๐ผ๐ป๐๐ฟ๐ผ๐น. Leadership is about stewardship. Focus on what you can influence and trust God with what you cannot.
King Jehoshaphat demonstrated this in 2 Chronicles 20 when facing an overwhelming threat: โWe do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.โ
He acknowledged the crisis, trusted God, and continued to lead without allowing fear to dictate his response.
Centuries later, Abraham Lincoln demonstrated similar restraint. After Gettysburg, frustrated by General Meade's failure to pursue retreating Confederate forces, Lincoln drafted a sharply critical letter but never sent it.
He loosened his grip on the impulse to react and chose to leave the weapon of his words in the drawer.

We don't have to surrender our judgment to the pressure of the moment.
Sometimes, leadership strength is knowing when to loosen your grip.
