Last night, our community came together for the annual National Night Out Against Crime, celebrating the partnerships that help keep our neighborhoods safe.

We were proud to have members of our 9-1-1 team representing South Bend, Mishawaka, and St. Joseph County at events across the community. It was a great opportunity to connect with residents, answer questions about emergency communications, and showcase the dedicated professionals who are here to serve 24/7.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello, shared their support, and helped make the evening such a success. Strong communities are built through collaboration, and we’re grateful to stand alongside our public safety partners and the citizens we proudly serve.

After 32 years of dedicated service, this month we say goodbye to someone who has left an unforgettable mark on SJC911.

Nancy Mersich has truly seen it all. New chiefs, new directors, new teammates, the transition to countywide 9-1-1 consolidation, and countless changes that shaped our organization into what it is today. Through every challenge and every success, Nancy remained a constant source of strength, wisdom, and encouragement.

While her title was Supervisor, to so many she was simply "Momma Nancy." She had an incredible gift for knowing when someone needed a listening ear, honest advice, a little encouragement, or just someone to believe in them. Whether it was a professional challenge or a personal struggle, Nancy was always willing to help. She cared deeply about the people around her and made everyone feel like family.

The truth is, Nancy is simply the best of the best. She dedicated her life to serving this community and supporting those who answered its calls for help. The sacrifices she made, long hours, endless training, documentation, constant phone calls, the day-to-day craziness, and the weight that comes with this profession. Through it all, there were tons of memories made and plenty of laughs!

While it is difficult to imagine SJC911 without her, we couldn't be happier knowing she has earned the opportunity to slow down, travel to hang with her sister, breathe, and enjoy this next chapter. No more phones ringing. No more late-night stress. Just well-deserved adventures, relaxation, and time spent doing the things she loves.

Nancy, thank you for your leadership, your kindness, your mentorship, and the countless lives you've touched, both inside these walls and throughout our community. Your legacy will live on in every person you encouraged, every dispatcher you mentored, and every life impacted by your dedication.

Congratulations on your retirement! We love you, Nancy, and while you will be deeply missed, your influence will never be forgotten.

Enjoy every moment because you've more than earned it.

Congratulations to Josh on completing an incredible 9-1-1 Chaplain training program! The program included a 10-week online course with reading, reflection, and writing assignments, followed by three days of intensive, in-person training in North Carolina and a day of community service.

Throughout the training, Josh learned that being a Chaplain isn't about having all the answers; it's about being present. Chaplains provide hope, support, and a listening ear to those going through difficult times, regardless of their faith or beliefs. They aren't there to "fix" people or preach to them, but to walk alongside others, respect confidentiality, and help connect them with the right resources when needed.

One of the most powerful lessons was the importance of the "ministry of presence," simply showing up, listening without judgment, and reminding someone they are not alone.

We are proud of Josh for answering this calling and know he will be an incredible resource for our team and those he serves. Congratulations on this well-earned accomplishment!

βš”οΈ Our White Knight Saves Again! βš”οΈ

On February 28th, Josh provided life-saving CPR instructions over the phone, resulting in a confirmed save, adding yet another incredible accomplishment to his growing list of recognitions.

This marks Josh's 5th recognition since the day he cleared call-taking, and he has become the first employee at our agency to earn four of our five recognition pins. His recognitions include a baby delivery, an apprehension, two caller-in-crisis, and now a CPR save.

What makes Josh so special isn't just the awards, it's his unwavering commitment to helping others on what may be the worst day of their lives. He consistently demonstrates compassion, professionalism, and a genuine dedication to serving our community.

Josh is an amazing 911 professional, an outstanding partner on the floor, and someone we are incredibly proud to have on our team.

Congratulations, Josh, and thank you for continuing to make a difference when it matters most! πŸ‘πŸš‘
