🚔 RAPID RECRUITMENT DAY UPDATE: PHYSICAL AGILITY TEST 💪

What does the physical assessment look like on Rapid Recruitment Day? We’re breaking it down so you know what to expect!

The Mishawaka Police Department is continuing to share information about our new hiring process, designed to help candidates complete multiple steps in a single day. Today, we’re highlighting the physical assessment requirements for aspiring MPD officers.

🏃 HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL BE REQUIRED TO COMPLETE:

💪 1. Push-Ups
Complete 25 push-ups. There is no time limit for this portion.

🔥 2. Sit-Ups
Complete 29 sit-ups in 1 minute.

🏃‍♂️ 3. ILEA Obstacle Course
Complete the obstacle course designed by the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA).

⏱️ 4. One-Mile Run
Complete a 1-mile run in less than 11 minutes.

✅ HOW TO PREPARE:

• Begin practicing these exercises ahead of testing day.
• Work on your strength, endurance, and cardiovascular fitness.
• Wear appropriate athletic clothing and running shoes.
• Come ready to give your best effort and follow all instructions provided by testing staff.

📝 NEW WRITTEN EXAM VERSION

We’re introducing a NEW version of the written exam for our upcoming Mishawaka Police Department hiring process!

This updated exam is designed to be more focused on the skills and abilities relevant to future police officers, helping us better align the testing process with the demands of a career in law enforcement.

The exam will continue to be provided by a third-party testing company and will assess applicants in the following areas:

📖 Reading and reading comprehension
✍️ Writing
🔤 Spelling
➗ Mathematics

What else is new? This test version allows results to be scored on the same day, helping us move candidates through the hiring process more efficiently.

This improvement supports our mission to expedite Rapid Recruitment Day and create a more streamlined hiring process for those interested in serving our community as Mishawaka Police officers.

We’ve received several questions about our new hiring process and want to make sure everyone has the information they need!

📅 APPLICATION DEADLINE

The deadline to submit an application for this testing process is Monday, October 19, 2026, at 4:00 PM.

📝 TESTING DATE — SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 8, 2026

Testing is by invitation only after your application has been submitted. Once the application period closes on October 19, 2026 applicants will receive a notification at the contact information provided with their application outlining the next steps and their status in the process.

✅ ALREADY APPLIED?

If you submitted an application since August 2026, you do not need to apply again! Your application has been retained, and you will be notified about this testing process and your application status after October 19.

ℹ️ MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS & APPLICATION INFORMATION

The minimum requirements listed in our hiring posts are not all-inclusive. They are intended to address basic qualifications and some of the most common initial questions from prospective applicants.

💙 Recognizing Compassion & Commitment to Our Community 💙

Yesterday, Mishawaka Police Officers Hunter Parsons, Ethan Nowacki, Mason Peak, and Sgt. Brent Vanderzwaag were recognized at the YWCA North Central Indiana for their care, compassion, and dedication when working with victims of domestic violence.

Our officers utilize the Danger Assessment for Law Enforcement (DA-LE) Form to help identify potential risks and determine what resources and support may be needed to help keep victims safe.

Thank you to these officers for treating every victim with compassion, dignity, and respect while working to connect them with the resources they need. 👏💙
