๐Ÿšฆ COOL YOUR ENGINES, MISHAWAKA! ๐Ÿšฆ
๐Ÿ“š BACK TO SCHOOL SAFETY REMINDER ๐Ÿ“š

School is officially back in session! ๐ŸšŒโœ๏ธ

As students, teachers, parents and staff return to school, weโ€™re seeing an increase in vehicle, pedestrian and bicycle traffic during the morning and afternoon commutes.

The City of Mishawaka, School City of Mishawaka, Mishawaka Police Department and Mishawaka Fire Department are asking everyone to COOL YOUR ENGINES and help make getting to and from school safe for everyone!

๐Ÿข SLOW DOWN โ€“ Give yourself extra time and watch your speed in school zones and neighborhoods.

๐Ÿ“ฑ PUT THE PHONE DOWN โ€“ Stay focused and eliminate distractions while driving.

๐Ÿ‘€ LOOK UP & LOOK AROUND โ€“ Watch carefully for children, pedestrians, bicyclists and crossing guards.

๐ŸšŒ WATCH FOR SCHOOL BUSES โ€“ Be prepared to stop and remember that children may be crossing the roadway near bus stops.

๐Ÿšธ WATCH FOR CROSSING GUARDS & CHILDREN โ€“ Give them plenty of space and always be prepared for a child to enter the roadway unexpectedly.

๐Ÿšฒ SHARE THE ROAD โ€“ Be alert for students riding bicycles and other forms of transportation.

A few extra seconds of patience can make a lifetime of difference. โค๏ธ

Letโ€™s work together to keep our students, families, crossing guards, bus drivers and everyone traveling through Mishawaka SAFE!

๐Ÿซ School is back. Letโ€™s all slow down and look out for one another.

๐Ÿš **Drone Technology Helping Keep Our Community Safe**

On **July 22**, Mishawaka Police Department officers were dispatched to an address in Mishawaka after receiving a report of a suicidal individual who was allegedly threatening to shoot responding officers.

As officers arrived, our Drone Team deployed a drone to the front of the residence. Using the drone, officers were able to safely "knock" on the front door and attempt to make contact with the occupants before placing officers in a potentially dangerous position.

The homeowners answered the door unarmed, and officers quickly determined the report was **false**.

While this incident fortunately ended without violence, it demonstrates how drone technology can reduce risk during high-risk calls. By allowing officers to gather information and establish communication from a safer distance, drones help protect community members, officers, and everyone involved while allowing incidents to be resolved more safely and effectively.

๐ŸŽฅ **Watch the video below to see how the drone was used during this response.**

The Mishawaka Police Department remains committed to using technology responsibly to enhance public safety and improve outcomes for our community.
