Vertical vent/roof cuts for 3B crew!
Station 83 B shift crew making cuts on one of MFD's roof props. Built by Mishawaka firefighters, this prop allows firefighters to simulate and practice cutting ventilation holes in roofs, a useful skill to have when vertical ventilation or better attic access is needed for fire suppression.

Station 82 C-Shift working on those yard lays!
The 2C crew headed out to one of our training houses to get some reps in of yard lays and stretching a hoseline in for fire attack.
A "yard lay" (aka "horizontal standpipe") is used in a few situations where fire attack crews may have to extend the water source going to the attack line. Common occurrences for this tactic would be if the Engine can't get close enough to the structure to allow enough of the cross lay to enter the structure (big yard, insufficient road access, etc.) or to extend an attack line to the rear of a large building.
Getting these practice runs in allows us to prepare for a fast deployment if the situation calls for it. Good job, crew!

When charging on a plane, keep portable charging devices on the tray table. Do not charge devices in overhead compartments and never charge e-cigarettes or vapes on a plane. If a battery overheats or fails, it is important for the flight crew to be able to respond quickly. For more info: fpw.org.

🚒 What a great turnout for our Annual Open House! 🚒

It was a great day welcoming kids and families into our firehouse! Guests had the opportunity to explore our fire apparatus, tour our new station, and learn valuable fire safety tips along the way.

Charge large items like e-bikes, scooters, and power tools
outside when possible. Do not block exits when charging. These
batteries store more energy, and fires can grow quickly if they
