The Mission Project Enabling adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live independently

The Mission Project enables adults with intellectual disabilities such as Down Syndrome and autism to live and work independently, with individualized supports. Our community lives in Mission, Kansas, and there are plans to research, publish and teach others how to create communities around our country. Fundraising directly provides the participants with work transportation, continuing education,

fitness and nutrition programs, and recreational activities. Our unique model has proven to be highly successful in enabling these capable adults to reach their highest human potential as leaders, as workers, as friends.

A reliable ride to work can make all the difference.

The Mission Project provides consistent, safe, and dependable transportation for participants to and from their place of employment, helping remove one of the biggest barriers to maintaining meaningful employment. Through this program, participants can focus on building their careers, gaining independence, and staying connected to their communities.

Transportation is more than getting from point A to point B. It's an important part of helping adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities live independently and confidently every day. 💙

Recently, several Mission Project participants had the opportunity to join an important community discussion with U.S. Commissioner for Disability Dr. Rebecca Hines at The Golden Scoop.

The conversation focused on real challenges impacting individuals with disabilities and their families, including employment opportunities, access to services, advocacy, and support during the transition into adulthood.

We’re proud of Oscar, Greg, Amelia, and Jaclynn for representing The Mission Project and helping ensure the voices of individuals with disabilities are heard in conversations that shape the future of disability services and support.

Garden Club is back! 🌱☀️

With warmer weather finally here, our participants have been spending time outside planting flowers, learning about gardening, and working together to brighten up the space. Clubs like Garden Club are about so much more than planting, they help build confidence, encourage social connection, create opportunities for teamwork, and give participants a chance to learn new skills.

We love seeing everyone enjoy the sunshine and take pride in helping things grow this season 💚

May is Mental Health Awareness Month 💚 and a great time to highlight one of our 7 Pillars of Independence — Healthy Choices.

At The Mission Project, supporting mental health is an important part of helping our participants live independently. Whether it’s building routines, staying connected to others, or learning how to manage stress, we’re here to help bridge the gap between challenges and confidence.

Recently, a few of our participants had the incredible opportunity to attend an invite-only community discussion at The Golden Scoop with Dr. Rebecca Hines, U.S. Commissioner for Disability. Dr. Hines traveled from Washington, D.C. to Kansas for two days of conversations focused on the issues that matter most to individuals with disabilities and their communities.

Whitt, Oscar, Greg, Amelia, and Jaclynn attended the discussion and helped share perspectives and experiences that deserve to be heard. We’re grateful to Kansas Council on Developmental Disabilities for hosting this important event and creating space for meaningful conversations around inclusion, advocacy, and accessibility.

Opportunities like this remind us how important it is for individuals with disabilities to have a seat at the table and a voice in shaping their communities. 💙

Some of the best moments at The Mission Project happen in the everyday things. 💙

A participant gaining confidence at work. A new friendship formed through one of our clubs. Learning how to navigate relationships, transportation, budgeting, or everyday decision making. Finding a community where people feel supported, encouraged, and truly seen.

That’s what The Mission Project is all about.

We’re grateful to walk alongside adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities as they build independence, connection, and confidence in all areas of life. ✨

What a special night celebrating the incredible community that makes The Mission Project possible 💙

From powerful stories and meaningful connections to an amazing Drama Club performance, this year’s Annual Celebration Fundraiser was a beautiful reminder of what happens when people come together to support adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities as they live independently with individualized support.

Every dollar raised helps support transportation to and from work, life skills programs, clubs, community involvement, and opportunities that empower our participants every single day.

Thank you for believing in our mission and being part of such a memorable evening ✨
