The Johnson County United Airport Drop and Ride free airport shuttle service for FIFA World Cup began service this morning.

This new public transit pilot provides direct service from Kansas City International Airport to Lenexa City Center and the Overland Park Convention Center. It will run during FIFA World Cup and throughout 2026 while funding is available.

Buses will run in 30-minute intervals starting today and continuing through July 17. After July 17, buses will run on a 60-minute schedule. Complete schedules and maps for the routes are available on the Johnson County Transit website and at JohnsonCountyUnited.com.

The service is a drop-and-ride service only.

Airport service pick-up and drop-off will occur at:
Kansas City International Airport: public transit pickup area near signpost 3A
Overland Park Convention Center: along the I-435 (north) side of the building.
Lenexa City Center: on Scarborough St. at 87th St.

⚽🌹 The soccer-inspired garden spheres have RETURNED to the Antioch Park Rose Garden and are on display now through early October 2026! Last week was the kickoff for the new art installation.

This colorful public art program showcases the incredible talents of participants from Papercrete Works, a program of Johnson County Developmental Supports.
Papercrete Works provides meaningful, community-integrated employment opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Be sure to stop by Antioch Park, enjoy the beauty of the park, and experience this unique celebration of art, inclusion, and the spirit of soccer! ⚽🎨🌹

On Saturday the northeast elected officials came together for our monthly town hall, with over 100 neighbors filling the room. I’m grateful for a community that shows up with ideas, tough questions, and a shared belief that Kansas and Johnson County can keep moving forward. If you dial 911, Johnson County’s ambulance, MED-ACT’s goal across the county is to arrive under 10 minutes with the majority in NEJOCO under five minutes.

This week, the County Commission dedicated a moment to honor our exceptional EMS professionals and the invaluable contributions they make to our county.

Exciting news! Buenos Aires Restaurant - an Argentinian cafe and eatery that is family owned and run by Claudia Luna West has opened a pop-up location at the Prairie Village Shops!

It’s a fantastic way to bring a taste of Argentina to Kansas City for the World Cup. Claudia will be hosting watch parties during the World Cup. She’s hoping it will become a place where people can connect and learn across cultures with each other.. I had the pleasure of joining PV Mayor Eric Mikkelson and Councilor Ron Nelson at the grand opening on Saturday. The empanadas and desserts were absolutely amazing, and Claudia’s warm hospitality made everyone feel right at home. I highly recommend stopping by — you definitely won’t be disappointed!

It was such a lovely day at the annual Turkey Creek Festival in Antioch Park! It was a real treat to meet Alice and Frank Dover, who were so proud to say they’re older than Merriam, which just celebrated its 75th birthday. 🥰 Plus, it’s always a pleasure to catch up with City of Merriam, KS - Government Mayor Bob Pape! And if you missed it there was a dinosaur sighting at the festival. 😆🦖

What an honor to help organize the inaugural Kansas Behavioral Health Center of Excellence Emerging Leaders in Behavioral Health Summit.

Yesterday, 150 undergraduate and graduate students from across Kansas gathered at the Kansas Leadership Center in Wichita as part of the very first Emerging Leaders cohort participating in the Behavioral Health Summit including one of our very own Johnson County Mental Health Center staff who is majoring in social work.

It was inspiring to see so many future leaders committed to strengthening behavioral health care services across our state. A special thank you Tim DeWeese Director of the Johnson County Mental Health Center, for delivering one of the keynote presentations and sharing his leadership and insight with the next generation.
