We closed out the month of May at 92 butterfly species!

Fun finds this weekend were a Gray Cracker found by Nolan Walker, a surprise Florida Purplewing found by Amanda Hernandez, and a photo from member Dan Jones of a Long-Tailed Skipper :D

And if May is any hint of what’s ahead… we’re feeling extra excited for the 30th Annual Texas Butterfly Festival this November!

Our website is getting a few final updates, and we’re working through a couple of behind-the-scenes details to make sure everything is ready to go. We appreciate your patience. Registration opens June 15th!

Watching this mural come to life was such a special experience for us at the National Butterfly Center. It had been an idea for this long and it's finally here.

During Earth Day, we got to watch neighbors, visitors, and families stop, connect, ask questions, and be part of something beautiful together. We’re so thankful to artists, Mauro de la Tierra and Eva Ryan, for sharing their time, creativity, and patience. Thank you for not just in creating this piece, but in welcoming the community into the process along the way.

A huge thank you to Trucha RGV for capturing and sharing this moment with such care and for all you give to the community.

This mural now lives in our gardens as a reflection of the wildlife in the RGV and the resilient beauty that connect us all.

Come and see it for yourself and take your picture

The National Butterfly Center will be closed Tuesday, May 26th for a Staff Day.

Our team will be taking time to reset and recharge, and visit a few nearby nature sites together for inspiration and team building.

Thank you for understanding and all your support through our Spring season. We have one more field trip tomorrow and will shift into our Summer season with fun announcements. Let's do this!

We are OPEN this Memorial Day.

So far this May, members and staff have documented 86 butterfly species! That is remarkable considering this is usually the month that things slow down butterfly wise.

If you’re looking for a peaceful way to spend part of your day,, come out for a walk, see what’s in bloom, and enjoy the beauty of the season with us.

A special thank you to Cecil "Woody" Wingfield for sharing his photos with us this month. :D

Smores & Moths last night was so fun.

A smaller group, but full of curiosity and great questions. There were so many moments where everyone was excitedly asking and observing at once and we loved it. Questions are always encouraged here. Curiosity is part of the fun. Keeps us on our toes and helps us learn more

Thank you to everyone who joined us, and thank you to our member Luna Malloy for sharing these beautiful photos from the evening. ❤️

Due to the recent rain, our trails are currently too slippery for us to safely host tonight’s night hike.

If the weather holds, we are STILL HOPING to gather for s’mores, "The Night Shift" presentation on nocturnal animals, and some fun arts & crafts!

We still have a chance of rain tonight. Please keep an eye on our page for updates throughout the day before heading out. Thank you for understanding

We are incredibly grateful to the many people and organizations throughout the Rio Grande Valley who have reached out wanting to support the National Butterfly Center during this difficult time.

Tonight, WeThePeopleRGV is hosting a community fundraiser called Butterfly Y2K Slay at Pecado Night Club, with proceeds helping support the Center.

Support for conservation comes in many forms, and we truly appreciate those who are using their creativity, spaces, and communities to help raise awareness for the wildlife and habitat we work to protect.

Go out and have a great time tonight in the name of conservation!
