🚨 TRAFFIC ALERT – HAPPENING NOW 🚨

Motorists, please use caution if traveling along the Expressway east of Conway. A trailer lost construction debris, and crews are currently on scene working to clear the area.

Expect possible traffic delays and slow-moving traffic. Please reduce your speed, stay alert, and give emergency personnel and cleanup crews plenty of room to work safely.

🚨 EXTREME HEAT WARNING FOR THE RIO GRANDE VALLEY 🚨

The next several days will bring dangerously high temperatures and heat index values across our area.
🌡️ Thursday: Heat Index values of 119°–125°
🌡️ Friday: Heat Index values of 112°–120°

What is especially concerning is that overnight “feels-like” temperatures may remain in the 90s, providing little relief from the heat.

Please take precautions:
✅ Stay hydrated and drink plenty of water.
✅ Limit outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day.
✅ Check on elderly family members, neighbors, and those without adequate cooling.
✅ Never leave children or pets in vehicles.
✅ Ensure pets have plenty of fresh water and shade.
✅ Wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothing.
✅ Know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Those without access to air conditioning are at the greatest risk. Let’s all do our part to stay safe and look out for one another during this dangerous heat event.

Over the last several days of severe weather, first responders and public works crews across the Valley stood ready to serve. Whether responding to calls, monitoring conditions, clearing roads, or remaining on standby, your dedication helped keep our communities safe.

Thank you to all firefighters, EMS, law enforcement, dispatchers, emergency management personnel, and public works employees for your hard work and commitment.

We had some severe rain threats here in the Valley, and though we didn’t get the downpour we anticipated, our Mission Fire Department was fully prepared. Our dive team was ready for any rescues, our fire crews were on standby, and our ambulance teams were ready to respond. I’m incredibly grateful for these folks, and we’re taking this as a learning opportunity so when the next event comes, we’ll be even more ready. Mission, we’ve got your back! ”
