The Lakota Youth and Family Traditional Arts Center and Mentorship Program is a continuing partnership between CFI Affiliate, Oyate Networking Program (ONP) and Sinte Gleska University (SGU). The center serves as a workshop and mentoring center for traditional arts and business skills for Lakota Native American youth and families living on the Rosebud reservation. A training program is offered on

traditional arts, including dance regalia and beadwork; as well as contemporary projects (i.e. wreaths, play costumes, quilt, curtain/drapery, upholstery, clothing, baby blankets and pillows.) It is a place where youth, families and elders can come as individuals or groups to learn and work on their projects. Oyate Networking Project provides the building, that was renovated by Sinte Gleska University prior to opening, and works with Sinte Gleska University (SGU) to recruit youth enrolled in CCF programs for sewing, craft activities and business internships. In order to accommodate as many people as possible, we are going to set up a schedule of classes. However, we can only comfortably house 4-5 people at a time so we will offer more classes as needed/requested in order to work with as many people as possible. Please pass along our information to any youth who are interested!
