Twenty years ago, the Downtown BID and Opportunity Resources shook hands on an idea: a crew that would take care of downtown Missoula every weekday, year-round.

Yesterday at Out to Lunch, that crew got their moment. Charlie Beaton of Big Dipper introduced them, Hanna Reese and Jack Hall handed out hats and plaques, and Caras Park clapped for every name.

Billy Meyer. Bryan Heivilin. Walter Johnson. Pat Jones. Shane Dufresne. Joe Isaacs, 12 years. Stevie Adams, 19 years. Andy Bender, 20 years, here since 2006.

The work is 80 blocks of sidewalks, alleys, gutters, tree wells, storm drains, and ADA ramps, Monday through Friday from 9 to 2:30. The numbers behind two decades of that are hard to believe. What we love most is smaller: the crew knows the business owners by name, and the business owners know them right back.

Thank you to supervisors Bryce Miller and Zach Allday, who make the days run, and to the Downtown Missoula Partnership for twenty years of showing up alongside us.

From our Artists of Opportunity! Patrick is a friendly and joyful artist who always has a kind greeting and a smile to share. He enjoys drawing colorful buildings and houses inspired by his dad’s house and loves creating pottery in the art room.

Our Art Department has been working with to build some beautiful planter boxes that we can grow flowers and produce in!

We’re so grateful to live in a community that comes alongside us and helps our clients live creative, flourishing lives.

Glass jars, tissue paper, and a whole lot of of glue. Our artists spent the afternoon learning decoupage from Ericca, and the results were as fun and one-of-a-kind as the people who made them. We sure love our people.

We can’t wait to get our new art space going for Artists of Opportunity!
