I often here that childcare is unaffordable in Montana. Childcare definitely needs to be more attainable for families, but I also think that parents should have the option to either use childcare or to stay at home with their young children, and that they should not be forced to return to work due to financial circumstances.

I first met Gary and Judy Matson at a Bonner Community Council meeting last November. Since then, I’ve had the chance to see them often and get to know them as friends.

Gary and Judy are deeply respected in our community for their work with the Bonner Natural History Center and Friends of Two Rivers. Their commitment to conservation, education, and community involvement has made a real difference in Bonner and throughout the region.

When I knock on doors, the number one issue I hear about is the cost of housing, so I wanted to learn more about cooperative housing and community land trusts. I learned so much today from Front Step. We visited Ravara Homes, River Rock housing cooperative, Trust Land Farm, and a super efficient Habitat for Humanity development that State Representative Marilyn Marler sold to the land trust. This is some great, innovative work in the area of affordable, workforce, and sustainable housing.

Your local tax dollars hard at work: There has been an annoying, unavoidable pothole at the exit to my workplace parking lot for a long time. Today, someone suggested that we contact the City of Missoula "Report-a-pothole" site. We made a report this morning and the pothole was repaired before noon! AMAZING!

This is a great example of how state grants can help communities across Montana deal with growing pains. I would like to see the state grant money for infrastructure in housing developments that meet requirements for "workforce" and affordable housing.

The new park will include a shade pavilion, walking trails, a dog park, a playground, water feature, a sports field, a sports court, new trees and pollinator habitat.
