Truck Driver and Equipment Operator -- Street Division: The City of Mitchell is accepting applications for a Truck Driver / Equipment Operator for the Street Division of the Public Works Department. This position operates trucks and other equipment in the construction, repair, and maintenance of streets and city infrastructure. Operates truck with attached equipment, maintains streets and city parking lots by filling cracks and potholes, cleans and performs minor servicing of vehicles, and performs emergency roadside repairs as needed, such as changing tires, installing light bulbs, and attaching tire chains. Participates in safety flagging and safety perimeter set-up with cones and barricades. Performs city-wide snow removal in the winter. Golf Specialist: JOB SUMMARY



This position performs specialized duties in the maintenance of the city golf course.



MAJOR DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS



* Participates in the maintenance of the city golf course and related facilities.



* Participates in the repair and upgrade of irrigation systems as assigned; winterizes irrigation systems; purchases irrigation parts and supplies; installs new irrigation systems.



* Performs turf management duties; mows, aerates, and fertilizes turf.



* Participates in the maintenance of the city cemetery and related facilities.



* Ensures work is performed in compliance with all relevant rules and regulations.



* Estimates equipment and materials needed for maintenance projects; develops specifications; requisitions materials as needed.



* Trims, removes, and provides care for trees, bushes and ornamental plants.



* Operates equipment, including loaders, backhoes, and dump trucks as licensed; maintains and repairs equipment as needed.



* Assists with snow removal operations.



* Directs and supervises the work of seasonal staff as assigned.



* Performs pesticide and herbicide applications.



* Performs related duties.







KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION



* Knowledge of golf course maintenance principles and practices.



* Knowledge of irrigation system maintenance principles and practices.



* Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.



* Knowledge of city purchasing policies and procedures.



* Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.



* Skill in planning.



* Skill in the operation of tractor, front-end loader, trenchers, backhoe, and other grounds maintenance equipment.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS



The Golf and Cemetery Superintendent assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy and the nature and propriety of the final results.



GUIDELINES



Guidelines include ADA regulations, OSHA guidelines, building codes, chemical application regulations, and city and department policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.



COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK



* The work consists of related specialized duties. Inclement weather contributes to the complexity of the work.



* The purpose of this position is to participate in the maintenance of city golf course and cemetery. Successful performance in this position contributes to the efficient and effective maintenance of city facilities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.



* The work is typically performed outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, and machinery with moving parts. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.



SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY



This position has functional supervision over assigned seasonal and part-time staff.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS



* Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.



* Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.



* Possession of or ability to obtain a valid CDL issued by the State of South Dakota within 6 months of hire.



* Possession of or ability to readily obtain a state-certified Commercial Pesticide Applicator’s License.

Refuse Collector/Driver: JOB SUMMARY



This position is responsible for operating a refuse truck to collect and transport solid waste and recyclables.



MAJOR DUTIES



* Operates a garbage truck along an assigned route to collect and transport solid waste.



* Performs equipment safety inspections; performs minor equipment maintenance; notifies supervisors of maintenance or repair needs.



* Collects litter on city right-of-way and in landfill.



* Operates equipment at landfill as needed; maintains landfill roads and ditches.



* Collects, sorts, transfers, hauls, weighs, and halts recyclable materials.



* Operates payloader, mini-loader, and scale equipment.



* Cleans and maintains shop.



* Performs related duties.



KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION



* Knowledge of department and city policies and procedures.



* Knowledge of city streets and geography.
