June 16th, 3:30 AM - Fire Weather Watches have been upgraded to Red Flag Warnings from noon today through 10 PM Wednesday. Very low humidity coupled with wind gusts 40-60mph will create dangerous conditions for rapid fire spread. Avoid open flames and/or creating sparks, as fires will start and spread rapidly.

Today at approximately 1:10p.m. the Mitchell Volunteer Fire Department responded to a report of multiple grass fires near the intersection of cr10 and crF. Upon arrival MVFD found three small fires burning along the north side of the ditch. MVFD along with Morrill Nebraska Volunteer Fire Department got a quick knock down of the flames and stayed on scene until all hot spots were extinguished. We suspect that a vehicle traveling along the road sparked these fires. Thank you to Morrill VFD for providing mutual aid to this incident. Mitchell VFD responded with six trucks and nine personnel. Morrill VFD responded with two trucks and four personnel. This is a great reminder to check vehicles and trailers before taking trips and ensure they are in working order and do not pose a fire threat in the dry conditions.

We would like to take the time and thank everyone who has donated items to us for firefighting efforts during this already difficult fire season. This year has depleted many of our supplies and we are extremely grateful for the support of our community to donate these items. We are always happy to help our neighbors when the need arises and your generosity helps us to continue to do so.

Yesterday afternoon (6/11) another two man crew and our type 6 was back out on the South Fork Fire. This crew arrived back to Mitchell after 10 AM today (6/12).

These photos are as real as it gets, right down to the not so glamorous tasks of washing and fueling afterwards. MVFD takes tremendous pride and responsibility for our department assets.

We would like to introduce a couple new members that have been voted onto the fire department the last couple of months. Haleigh, Tyler, and Jackson have all been added to the MVFD roster and are excited to serve their community on the fire dept.
