We are a bit late to the party but we would like to take the time to thank and recognize all of our members at the Mitchell Volunteer Fire Department and members of Volunteer Fire Departments near and far on National Volunteer Firefighters Recognition Day๐Ÿš’ Volunteer firefighters do amazing things at a moments notice without asking for anything in return. We spend countless hours away from our families to protect and serve our communities through trainings, community events, and answering calls. Rural areas like Western Nebraska could not do it if it weren't for Volunteer Fire Departments. We are blessed to live in such a great area with great neighboring Departments that are always happy to help one another. Volunteer firefighters are truly one of a kind and we are proud to know so many as well as be ones ourselves.

On Monday July 20th the Mitchell Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a grass fire in the area of Murphy Road and HWY 29 north of Mitchell in Sioux County. This fire likely started from a lightning strike as thunderstorms moved into the area. Luckily the rain from those storms put out the fire before it could get very big. MVFD responded with eight trucks and multiple personnel.
