We look forward to seeing everyone today! We do understand that some may be worried about gathering for events during these uncertain times. We completely understand. We encourage everyone that plans on coming to bring a mask, lawn chairs, and to practice social distancing. We have been in close contact with county officials over the last several weeks and feel confident that if everyone does their part, we will have a successful event. Per the county mask mandate, mask are not required outdoors unless the ability to adequately social distance is compromised. Therefore we highly recommend mask be brought for standing in lines for vendors or in case there is areas that become crowded. We will have hand sanitizer stations and we have expanded the open areas where people can watch the music and fireworks. Let's all have a good time.
Our event is still on for Saturday!!! We do ask everyone to follow current social distancing guidelines and mask rules. We will provide hand sanitizer stations. Please bring lawn chairs and be ready for music, food, fun, and fireworks!!

Earlier today, HVFD crews responded to a commercial vehicle rollover on HWY 76 near Dorris Rd. The vehicle was carrying multiple bottles of compressed oxygen, propane, refrigerated carbon dioxide, and acetylene. Crews operated on scene for several hours until everything was cleaned up. Big thanks to Sumner County EMA for responding to assist. Also Sumner County EMS, Sumner County Sheriff's Office, Tennessee Highway Patrol, and Danny's towing responded to the scene. Highland Engine 1 and Brush 1 responded to the scene and Highland Engine 2 stood by at Station 1.

Some may have noticed that our Blessings Box at our Station 3 in Mitchellville was missing. The last round of storms the other day had damaged it. We are happy to report that it has been FIXED!!! We thank everyone who has taken the time to place things in it for those in need!
Kentucky State Police issues AMBER Alert for twin girls
The Kentucky State Police issued an AMBER Alert for two 7-year-old girls Wednesday night who are believed to be with their non-custodial mother en route to South Carolina.
The Highland VFD will not be conducting any events at the Park in the City limits of Mitchellville at least until the end of April. We were planning an Easter Egg Hunt, but at this time that event has been put on hold. We do have an open house/cookout on Memorial Day weekend, and of course our 4th of July Celebration is being planned for July. Be safe everyone!
PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
The country and the world for that matter are certainly dealing with uncharted waters. Our daily routines have changed and will be changing even more over the next few weeks as we all find out how this Corona-virus will spread. Having said that, we here at the Highland Volunteer Fire Department will do everything in our power to be here for you and the community we serve should we be needed. We will be cutting back on our public interactions. We will for the time being not offer station tours, bring fire trucks to events and birthday parties, or conduct any functions at our local schools or at the Park in Mitchellville. We are working closely with Sumner County EMS on response protocols and procedures as more information is known. Our 100% volunteer staff will be there to assist anyone in our community should the need arise. Yes, just 3 days ago we were advertising lots of rain this week. Model changes happen. Heavy rain isn't huge threat anymore. Look for 1-3 inches between today and Thursday. HOWEVER, there is a growing strong to severe threat this evening. Large hail, damaging winds and even a tornado can't be ruled out. Please remain weather aware as we move through the rest of today.
Looks like the main time frame will be 6 PM til 2 AM.

It is burn permit season!!! With the burn ban being lifted, TN State Frestry is requiring burn permits to be obtained for outdoor burning a little early! Please call the number listed below or go to www.burnsafetn.org to get a burn permit and to view laws and regulations on outdoor open burns! Be safe!

It is with HUGE excitement that we announce we have been awarded a FEMA Assistance to Firefighter Grant for the year of 2018. This grant was written to replace all of our SCBA units that are well over 10 years old. This task has taken close to 5 years to get accomplished. We are extremely excited and looking forward to getting our new SCBAs delivered soon and in service. More information will be posted in the near future.

While there is no official burn ban for the unincorporated areas of Sumner County, we highly DISCOURAGE ANY outdoor burning due to the high temperatures and dry conditions. This area has not recieved any measurable rainfall for some time and no rain is forecast for the near future so conditions will only worsen. Be safe!

On Wednesday, members of the HVFD, Gallatin Volunteer Fire Department, and PFD spent their evening training at Highland Academy. Crews drilled in multiple skills and tactics including, hooking a hydrant, attack line deployment at campus dorms, search and rescue, and ladder placement and usage. This was an awesome training opportunity. We would like to thank Highland Academy for allowing us to once again use their facilities. Also a huge thank you to Lt. Jeremy Conner from Portland TN Fire Department for assisting us with instructing scenarios. We look forward to more trainings similar to this in the future!!
