❤️💙 Grand County EMS was honored to present our Lifesaver Award to local Moab City lifeguards Soren Indergard and Blake Coleman at the Moab City Council meeting on May 26.

Soren and Blake were recognized for their swift, decisive actions during a critical aquatic emergency at the Moab City Pool. Their teamwork, training, and calm response saved the life of a visiting teenager who was drowning in the deep end of the pool.

The award was presented by Co-Medical Directors Dr. Flannagan and Dr. Alexander, along with EMS Chief Smith and Clinical Services Division Chief Brewer.

The Lifesaver Award is not given lightly. It is reserved for those rare moments when an individual's actions have a direct and critical impact on whether someone lives or dies.

Soren and Blake, your professionalism, courage, and commitment to protecting others exemplify the very best of public service. Because of your actions, a family was spared an unimaginable tragedy, and a young person was given the opportunity to go home.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. We are proud to recognize you both for a job exceptionally well done. ❤️

🎉🚑Grand County EMS would like to recognize and celebrate our final high school intern of the school year, Jaxith Windsor!🎉🚑

Jax joined us this year with an interest in medicine and nursing and spent the semester getting a firsthand look at emergency medical services in our community. Over the course of his internship, he gained confidence, completed his required training sign-offs, and even had the opportunity to respond on a backcountry call with our crews.

At Grand County EMS, we are proud to support opportunities that introduce local students to healthcare and emergency services careers while helping foster the next generation of providers in Grand County.

Thank you, Jax, for spending part of your school year with us. We wish you success in whatever path you choose moving forward, and we hope you’ll stop by and visit anytime! 👏

🚑Happy EMS Week from Grand County EMS!🚑

This year’s EMS Week theme is Improving Outcomes Together - a reminder that great patient care takes teamwork from dispatch to ambulance crews, hospitals, flight teams, public safety, families, friends, and the community we serve.

It’s been a busy week for our crews, with 39 active 911 calls since EMS Week began on May 16, but we were still grateful to pause and celebrate together at our annual Employee Appreciation BBQ.

During the celebration, we honored our 2026 Provider of the Year, Blake Morris, and Rookie of the Year, Ellie Grimes, for their dedication, professionalism, and commitment to serving Grand County.

We were honored to celebrate alongside our medical directors, board members, friends, families, and Intermountain Health flight crews.

National EMS Week was established in 1974 to recognize the lifesaving work of EMS professionals across the country, and we are proud to serve this incredible community every day.

Thank you, Grand County, for your continued support of your EMS crews.!!! 🚑

ALERT: We've been made aware of a photo being circulated around the High School and Moab city. Our School Resource Officer has been at the school all day, as has Grand County School District administration, and they confirm that NO Law Enforcement (other than our local officers), let alone Federal Agents, were at any Moab schools all day. We further have confirmed via software analysis that this photo was generated using Artificial Intelligence software.

Hoaxes like these are dangerous, and when they cause public alarm, can become criminal. We will be investigating this incident, and those responsible will be dealt with appropriately.

Baptism by Fire 🔥

Amrah Hubbard recently stepped into his new role as Shift Captain with Grand County EMS—and his first shift in command didn’t ease him in.

It threw everything at him.

From the early morning hours to late into the evening, our crews responded to call after call across Grand County—ranging from difficulty breathing and seizures to traumatic injuries, a cardiac arrest, and everything in between.

📟 Yesterday’s calls included:
• 07:23 – Difficulty breathing (Moab)
• 11:31 – Seizure (Mill Canyon)
• 12:12 – Traumatic injury (Potato Salad Hill)
• 12:49 – Traumatic injury (Arches National Park)
• 13:23 – Medical alarm (Grand County)
• 13:56 – Lockout with child inside (Moab)
• 14:04 – Medical call (Grand County)
• 15:14 – Possible overdose (Moab)
• 15:30 – Cardiac arrest (Highway 128)
• 17:47 – Interfacility transfer to St. Mary’s
• 18:00 – Automated crash alarm (Highway 191)
• 19:23 – Traumatic injury (Sand Flats switchbacks)
• 21:26 – Domestic incident (Moab)

As Captain, Amrah wasn’t just responding—he was coordinating. Managing limited resources. Making sure the next call still had an ambulance available. Supporting crews on complex scenes. Keeping the system moving.

It’s a role that requires calm under pressure, constant decision-making, and the ability to manage both the chaos on scene and the bigger picture behind it.

This is what EMS looks like in Grand County.

A single day can stretch resources thin, especially in a community that serves both residents and thousands of visitors exploring our backcountry and parks.

👉 If you’ve ever wondered why sustainable EMS funding matters—this is it.
It’s about making sure that no matter how busy the day gets, help is still there when you need it.

Join us in congratulating Captain Hubbard on stepping into this role—and into one heck of a first shift. 👏

Grand County EMS had a great time partnering with to bring physiology to life in the classroom.

A big thank you to Terry Dial, assistant professor of biology at USU, for inviting us to guest teach and demonstrate real-world applications of physiology. Students got hands-on exposure to how these concepts translate directly into patient care in the field.

We walked through cardiac monitoring using our EKG equipment, showing how we interpret the heart’s electrical signals and recognize rhythms from healthy to critical. We also demonstrated blood pressure monitoring, exhaled CO₂ (capnography), and pulse oximetry, tools we rely on every day to make real-time decisions.

These moments help bridge the gap between textbook learning and real-world practice, giving students a clearer picture of how physiology shows up in emergency medicine.

GCEMS is excited to continue building opportunities like this with USU Moab. From our EMT program to classroom collaborations, we’re committed to growing the next generation of healthcare providers right here in our community.
