We thank you for your continued support and we would love to hear

from you all. Responsibilities:

The office of Sheriff is a constitutionally created office with duties prescribed by the Utah legislature. The sheriff is the chief law enforcement officer for the county and is elected every 4 years. The Sheriff has county-wide jurisdiction, but in practice, mostly concentrates activities outside city limits where municipal officers cannot operate. The Sheriff has been charged with the responsibility to maintain the public peace and protecting life and property of all citizens of Grand County. Obligations and responsibilities have continuously grown throughout the years. Duties:

The duties of the Sheriff’s Office have increased as administrative procedures, court decisions, and requirements of the laws have brought about sophisticated and technical advancements to law enforcement. Vision:

The Grand County Sheriff's Office will set standards of conduct and service through professionalism, integrity, accountability, education and training. The 'Grand County Sheriff's Office will foster productive partnerships with citizens, businesses, other members of the criminal justice system, and emergency responders, so the community will be best served. Core Values:

INTEGRITY
Integrity is the very foundation of our core ethics and shall be exhibited in every aspect of our professional and personal lives. This commitment entails much more than just adhering to the letter of the law or complying with a set of general orders. Integrity mandates that we incorporate honesty and fairness into the process of making even the smallest of decisions. It is through our conduct that we will earn the respect and trust of both our communities and of one another. SERVICE
We have dedicated ourselves to improving the quality of life and reducing the incidence of crime . We shall remain forever vigilant as a united force between the criminal element and their prospective victims. The public has entrusted us with the protection of their lives and property, and we willingly accept the inherent risks associated with this tremendous responsibility. We shall use customer satisfaction as the benchmark by which we measure our success. RESPECT
We shall consistently demonstrate tolerance, civility and fairness when dealing with community members and each other. Our reputation is dependent upon our ability to operate free from prejudice and favoritism in all situations. We shall remain cognizant of the fact that many citizens judge our entire agency by the actions of an individual; therefore, we shall always conduct ourselves in a manner that ensures respect for all our members. QUALITY
We shall never limit our performance to fit within the accepted standards set by those around us. Instead, we will work diligently and united to far exceed any and all expectations. We will continue to improve ourselves both professionally and personally through a combination of education, ingenuity and cooperation.

From Sheriff Wiggins:

I want to express my appreciation to the United States Attorney’s Office, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), and all law enforcement personnel involved in the successful prosecution of this case. The sentencing of a repeat child s*x offender to 150 months in federal prison demonstrates the importance of strong partnerships between local, state, and federal agencies in protecting our communities and holding offenders accountable.

This case was the result of a joint effort between Homeland Security Investigations, prosecutors, and law enforcement partners who worked tirelessly to ensure justice was served. Cases involving crimes against children are among the most serious investigations we encounter, and it takes a coordinated team effort to identify offenders, protect victims, and bring those responsible to justice.

The Grand County Sheriff’s Office is grateful for the outstanding work of the United States Attorney’s Office and Homeland Security Investigations. Their dedication and commitment helped remove a dangerous offender from our communities and reinforces our shared mission of protecting children and keeping our communities safe.

ST. GEORGE, Utah – A child s*x predator from Colorado was sentenced today in Southern Utah to 150 months’ imprisonment and a lifetime of supervised release after he travelled from Colorado to Utah to have s*x with who he thought was a 13-year-old girl, when in fact he was communicating with an u...

Sheriff Wiggins and Emergency Management Director Kate Finley, presented Castle Valley and Castle Valley Fire with dual-band radios, a laptop, solar panels, lights, and solar generators. This equipment, valued at approximately $88,574, was purchased through a State Homeland Security grant to help strengthen emergency communications and public safety capabilities.

For years, Castle Valley has relied on older VHF radio technology that often experienced coverage limitations. The dual-band radios operate on the upgraded digital system and will provide a major improvement in communication reliability and interoperability for first responders.

We are grateful for the strong working relationship and continued partnership with Castle Valley and Castle Valley Fire as we work together to improve public safety for our communities.

News from Sheriff Wiggins:

I am proud to introduce the newest member of the Grand County Sheriff’s Office, K9 Echo! 🐾

Echo is an 11 month old Belgian Malinois from Poland and will be handled by Sgt. Turk. Through a highly competitive grant process, the Grand County Sheriff’s Office was awarded $25,000 to purchase a dual purpose canine and the specialized equipment needed to operate a successful K9 program.

This grant funding was made possible largely because of the success our office has had over the past three years in seizing large quantities of narcotics and our continued commitment to combating drug trafficking in Grand County. We often rely on grants such as this to help purchase necessary equipment while helping offset the burden on our county budget.

K9 Echo will be a tremendous asset to our agency and community as we continue working to keep dangerous drugs out of our county and protect the citizens we serve.

Please join us in welcoming K9 Echo to the Grand County Sheriff’s Office family! 🇺🇸

In April of 2005, Grand County Search and Rescue helped rescue a man by the name of Chase Clavell. Chase was on a camping trip when he fell 60 feet down a cliff and GCSAR performed a rescue to get him needed medical attention.

Fast forward to today, Chase is giving back in an incredible way. Through the C10 Red Rock Retreat car show, Chase, the event vendors, and another generous donor who was rescued two years ago, raised an amazing total of $71,564.00 for Grand County Search and Rescue.

This follows last year’s generous donation of $15,002.00, making the continued support from Chase and the C10 Red Rock Retreat truly remarkable.

We cannot thank Chase, the C10 Red Rock Retreat, the vendors, donors, and everyone who supported this event enough. Donations like this directly help our team purchase needed equipment, support specialized training, and continue providing rescue services to our community and visitors.

From all of us at Grand County Search and Rescue and the Grand County Community- Thank you.

News from Sheriff Wiggins:

On May 15, 2026, Grand County Dispatch received a 911 call from a mother in need after her two children went missing from their camp in the remote Book Cliffs area of northern Grand County.

Due to the remote location being two hours away from the Sheriff’s Office by vehicle, Deputy Lacy requested assistance from our partners at Intermountain Flight & Ambulance Services. Their flight crew quickly accepted the mission and responded with Deputy Lacy on board.

A short time later, the helicopter crew successfully located the missing children and safely reunited them with their family.

We are extremely grateful for the teamwork, quick response, and most importantly, the happy outcome in this incident.
