Today’s the day! This morning we installed and cut the ribbon for the Little Blue Book Box, Moberly’s newest Little Free Library! Some neighbors have already visited. We hope you visit and find your next great read!

Just finished cleaning, sanitizing, and placing labels in about 50 books ahead of our opening! There are so many great titles here for readers of all ages, and I have a big order arriving tomorrow!

May 11-17 is Little Free Library Week, and what better way to celebrate than by announcing that we are just TWO WEEKS away from the grand opening of the Little Blue Book Box!

We are hard at work advertising to our neighbors, curating our collection, and securing the final supplies needed to assemble the library. We’re so excited to join this amazing community dedicated to promoting literacy access, building community, and inspiring people of all ages to become lifelong readers.

Snail mail alert! One way I’m promoting the Little Blue Book Box ahead of its installation is with an informational mailer!

This brochure briefly explains Little Free Libraries (and includes specific info for ours), how books will be stocked and for what audiences, the importance of showing care and respect when visiting, and more. It also announces our grand opening date! We’re about two weeks from the big day, so I hope this gets our neighbors excited and encourages them to support the Little Blue Book Box.

Hi friends! As we prepare for our grand opening, here’s more about our new little library!

The Little Blue Book Box (Charter #204162) is a Little Free Library located on Eagle Street in Moberly. The mission of the Little Blue Book Box is to promote the joy of reading to community members of all ages.

The way it works is simple: take a book, share a book, read, and repeat! If you see something you’d like to read, take it. You don’t have to leave a book at the same time you take one. Once you’ve read it, you can keep the book, return it to the Little Blue Book Box, or pass it along to a friend or other Little Free Library.

We stock books for readers of all ages, and our hope is that you find your next favorite book here. Our Little Free Library serves a broader community, so we will have books of all genres and age levels. Parents are in charge of what books their kiddos bring home. If you find a book in our library that you don’t personally agree with, please do not remove the book–just leave it for another reader! If you’re curious about whether a book might be a good fit for your reader, I recommend visiting https://www.commonsensemedia.org/.

The Little Blue Book Box is stewarded by volunteers. We want everyone to feel welcome to use the library, so we ask that you show care and respect when visiting. Please don’t leave trash in the library, and please don’t donate books that are molded, torn or heavily damaged, or in any other condition you wouldn’t want in your own home.

While we wait for the Little Blue Book Box to arrive in the mail, I’ve been busy prepping some extra goodies to include for our visitors. First up: bookmarks! I plan to stock a fun variety so hopefully every reader can take home one they love.
