⚠️ Mobile County residents: More rain is expected across our area, and flooding can happen quickly on roads, streets, and low-lying areas.

Please DO NOT attempt to drive through flooded roadways. Just a small amount of moving water can sweep a vehicle away, and it is often impossible to tell how deep the water is beneath the surface.

Remember: Turn Around, Don’t Drown.

Slow down, stay alert, and use caution during heavy rain. If you encounter water covering the roadway, find an alternate route and avoid unnecessary travel until conditions improve.

Stay weather aware and continue monitoring local forecasts and emergency updates.

Hurricane Preparedness Week – Day 7

Hurricane Preparedness Week may be ending—but hurricane season is just getting started.

In Mobile County, storms in the Gulf can develop quickly. The time to prepare is now—not when a storm is already on the way.

If you do one thing today, make it this:

Know Your Zone.

Evacuations in Mobile County are issued by zone. When an order is given, you won’t have time to figure it out.

Find your zone here:

Then take a few minutes to:
• Review your emergency plan
• Check your supplies
• Make sure your family knows what to do

You’ve had a week of information—now it’s time to act.

Follow trusted updates from and Mobile County EMA throughout the season.

Hurricane Preparedness Week – Day 6

Just because the storm has passed doesn’t mean the danger is over.

In Mobile County, some of the most serious hazards occur after the storm.

After a hurricane:
• Floodwaters may still be rising or hiding hazards
• Downed power lines can still be energized
• Roads may be damaged or impassable
• Heat and humidity can quickly become a health risk

Take your time and stay cautious:
• Only return home when officials say it is safe
• Avoid driving through flooded areas
• Use generators outdoors only—at least 20 feet from your home
• Watch for debris, unstable structures, and wildlife

Nearly half of hurricane-related fatalities happen after the storm.

Stay alert. Stay patient. Stay safe.

Hurricane Preparedness Week – Day 5

When a hurricane impacts Mobile County, the goal is simple: stay protected and stay put.

Whether you’ve evacuated or are sheltering in place, conditions can deteriorate quickly—and help may not be able to reach you right away.

During the storm:
• Stay indoors and away from windows
• Move to an interior room on the lowest level not prone to flooding
• Keep multiple ways to receive weather alerts
• Do not drive through flooded roads—turn around, don’t drown

In Mobile County, hazards don’t stop at landfall. Tornadoes, flash flooding, and dangerous conditions can continue well into the storm.

Stay where you are until conditions are safe and officials say otherwise.

Mobile County EMA participated in the 2026 NOAA Hurricane Awareness Tour Tuesday at Mobile International Airport. The event allowed residents to tour three specialized aircraft, including USAF Reserve WC-130J hurricane hunter aircraft, a NOAA WP-3D Orion aircraft, and a NOAA King Air used to collect critical storm data.

Experts and flight crews met with the public to discuss the science of storm tracking. The tour, held during National Hurricane Preparedness Week, serves as a reminder for families to finalize emergency plans and kits before hurricane season.

Hurricane Preparedness Week – Day 4

When a storm threatens the Gulf, it’s time to move from planning to action.

In Mobile County, conditions can change quickly. Waiting too long to act can limit your options and increase your risk.

When a storm is approaching:
• Secure your home (bring in loose items, cover windows if needed)
• Fuel your vehicle and charge devices early
• Have your go-bag ready (medications, important documents, supplies)
• Check on neighbors, especially those who may need assistance

If an evacuation is ordered, follow it.
Evacuations are issued by zone and are based on real risk to life and safety.

Know where you will go ahead of time—don’t wait until the last minute to decide.

Hurricane Preparedness Week – Day 3

Understanding hurricane forecasts can give you days to prepare—but only if you know what you’re looking at.

In Mobile County, storms in the Gulf can change quickly. And one of the biggest misconceptions we see is this:

The forecast cone does NOT show where impacts stop.

Mobile County can experience:
• Heavy rain and flooding
• Tornadoes
• Strong winds

…even when we’re outside the cone.

Here’s what to know:
• Watch = Conditions are possible
• Warning = Conditions are expected—take action
• Don’t focus on category alone—focus on impacts

Take a minute to watch this quick video explaining the cone:

• National Weather Service Mobile
• Mobile County EMA

The earlier you understand the forecast, the better your decisions will be.
