Protecting a working port requires multiple agencies working together.

Last month, our police officers and Harbormaster were part of a joint maritime security exercise with the U.S. Coast Guard and local law enforcement agencies that tested how we share information, coordinate resources and respond to potential threats in the harbor.

That kind of coordination is critical to protecting the Port of Mobile and the people working every day to keep Alabama’s economy moving. 📸: Mobile Police Department

This summer, the Alabama Port Authority hosted talented interns from Auburn University, the University of Alabama, and the University of South Alabama. Kalan Sims, Abigail “Abby” Kyser, and Natalie Nelson each brought their own perspectives and unique skills to their work with our IT, Government Affairs, and Environmental teams.

By partnering with Alabama universities, we’re giving students valuable hands-on experience and an opportunity to explore the wide range of career paths that keep the Port of Mobile and the industries it serves moving. We’re grateful for everything Abby, Kalan, and Natalie contributed this summer, and we look forward to seeing where their careers take them next.

Thank you to Governor Kay Ivey and ADCNR Commissioner Chris Blankenship for allocating $5 million in GoMESA funding to the Alabama Port Authority’s Upper Mobile Bay Wetlands Creation Project. This will build on the recent allocation from the RESTORE Council for construction of the project’s first 100 acres.

Berth dredging is essential to continued operations at the Port of Mobile, and this project will allow us to put that dredged material to beneficial use — creating new critical habitat for wildlife, improving water quality and making Mobile Bay more resilient.

For nearly 100 years, Pier B South at the Port of Mobile has helped move the goods that power some of Alabama’s largest industries. With support from federal and state leaders, we’re rebuilding the pier so it can continue serving our state for decades to come.

By modernizing the docks, upgrading the warehousing and improving rail connectivity, we’re increasing our capacity for heavy cargo and making it more efficient to move steel, forest products, project cargo and other goods through the Port.

More than a pier replacement, this is part of a major investment in the cargo operations that support economic growth across Alabama.
