Records were made to be broken, and the team at Terminal Railway Alabama State Docks (TASD) keeps doing just that. In May, our rail team posted its strongest month ever — reaching new highs for overall rail traffic and setting back-to-back monthly records for coal handling operations. In all, 20,627 railcars moved through the Port of Mobile last month, 46 percent above budget projections.

This kind of performance reflects growing demand for Alabama products and the strength of the multimodal connections that link the Port of Mobile to inland markets across the region. Whatever our customers need, we know our rail partners and the TASD team are ready to deliver.

The Alabama Port Authority is leading beneficial use efforts in Mobile Bay thanks to the support of Governor Kay Ivey, the RESTORE Council, and Outdoor Alabama.

$24 million in RESTORE Act funding was just approved for the first phase of a major wetlands restoration effort in Upper Mobile Bay—putting the State’s dredge material to work creating new wetlands, restoring critical habitat, and supporting the long-term health of Mobile Bay.

Safety and efficiency go hand in hand, and the Alabama Port Authority is committed to both. The team at Terminal Railway Alabama State Docks (TASD) recently earned a 2025 Jake Award from the American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association, recognizing a full year with zero reportable injuries.

Maintaining these high standards helps create a safe working environment and keeps cargo moving efficiently through the Port of Mobile and the supply chains Alabama businesses depend on.

With deepwater access, extensive rail connectivity, and expanding container capacity, the Port of Mobile’s role as a global logistics gateway is growing and it’s driving new investment.

Ray-Mont Logistics has begun construction on a new export-focused transloading facility that will create new opportunities for its customers and increase containerized exports from Mobile.

It’s also another example of how strategic investments in container infrastructure and partnerships with APM Terminals -Mobile, Alabama Export Railroad (Mississippi Export Railroad) and Canadian National Railway Company are creating new opportunities for global trade through Alabama.
