Effective July 1, 2026, four Mobile County employees will officially retire with a combined total of 93 years and seven months of experience. The retirees were recognized at the June 22 meeting of the Mobile County Commission.

Mosquitoes need only a small amount of standing water to breed. Help protect your family and neighborhood by taking a few minutes to complete this simple backyard checklist.

• Clean gutters
• Empty flowerpots and birdbaths
• Remove standing water from toys, buckets and pools
• Fix leaky faucets and pipes
• Keep trash cans covered

The Mobile County Health Department’s Vector Services team is conducting mosquito-control spraying following weeks of heavy rain, but residents can make a big impact by eliminating breeding sites around their homes.

Summer heat can be dangerous for pets. Take a few simple precautions to help keep your furry family members safe and comfortable:

• Never leave pets in a parked vehicle, even for a few minutes. Temperatures inside a car can rise rapidly and become deadly.

• Make sure pets have access to plenty of fresh water and shade throughout the day.

• Limit outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day.

• Check pavement before walks. If it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for your pet's paws.

• Watch for signs of heat-related illness, including excessive panting, drooling, weakness or lethargy.

• Consider walking pets during the early morning or evening when temperatures are cooler.

A little extra care can go a long way in helping pets stay healthy and safe all summer long.
