Council Thanks Mt. Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church for Continued Support
Council Traditional School is grateful for the continued generosity of the Mt. Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church Youth Department. Their ongoing support has provided our school with much-needed supplies, including paper towels, disinfecting wipes, and hand sanitizer. These thoughtful donations help us keep our school clean, healthy, and ready for learning.
We would also like to recognize Jaxson Smith, a fourth-grade student at Council, who is a member of Mt. Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church and has helped support the church’s efforts to collect donations for our school. We are so proud of Jaxson for helping make a difference in his school community.

Council's faculty kicked off the year with the MCPSS Learning Launch, collaborating and strengthening instructional practices focused on Learning Intentions and Success Criteria to make learning clear, meaningful, and purposeful for every student. This year’s theme, “The Man in the Mirror,” reminds us that education is about more than what students learn—it’s also about how they see themselves. Every day, our teachers and staff are committed to helping our Comets look in the mirror and see someone who is capable, confident, valued, and able to achieve anything they set their minds to. ☄️💙 And as educators, we’re looking in the mirror, too—reflecting, growing, and giving our best so our students can become their best.
When our Comets look in the mirror, we want them to see POSSIBILITY. We want them to see POTENTIAL. We want them to see “A CHALLENGE AS AN OPPORTUNITY TO ACHIEVE EXCELLENCE.”

🔍 What’s in the Bag? 👜✨ Our 2nd grade scientists put their observation skills to work in the STEM Lab this week! Students examined mystery objects and worked together to observe, identify, and classify them based on physical properties such as color, shape, size, texture, hardness, and flexibility.
Using evidence from their observations, students explained their thinking and discovered how scientists use an object’s properties to describe and classify it.

Our kindergarten scientists were busy exploring different types of weather during a hands-on STEM Lab rotation station activity! Students rotated through sunny, rainy, windy, and cloudy stations, where they used materials and science tools to investigate the characteristics of each type of weather.
From creating a little “rain” 🌧️ to testing what the “wind” could move 💨, each station gave our youngest scientists a chance to observe, explore, and learn through play and discovery.
These hands-on experiences help our kindergarteners connect the weather they see outside every day to the science happening all around them. 🌎🔎

🔬 Science in Action! 🏓✨
This week, Miss Lapointe’s science classes took learning beyond the textbook as they investigated forces and motion through a hands-on activity! Working with ping-pong balls, students explored how forces can affect an object’s motion, speed, and direction while making observations and testing their ideas. Activities like this give students the opportunity to learn science by doing science—asking questions, making predictions, observing what happens, and using evidence to make sense of the world around them.
There’s nothing better than seeing curiosity turn into discovery! ❤️

✨ 3rd Grade STEM Lab: Challenge Accepted! ✨
Third graders kicked off their first day in the STEM Lab by discovering that great ideas are even better when we work together! Using only cups, string, and teamwork, students tackled the Cup Stack Pyramid Challenge—putting their communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills to the test. No hands on the cups…just creative thinking and a whole lot of teamwork!
First STEM challenge of the year = SUCCESS! 🚀🔬
