Celebrate Flag Day with us at MMoA!

It commemorates the historic adoption of the American flag by the Second Continental Congress all the way back in 1777.

As part of National Flag Week, Americans everywhere are encouraged to proudly fly the Stars and Stripes at their homes and businesses.

We also invite you into our galleries to view a featured piece from the America 250 – Kent Portfolio. This exhibition honors the United States’ landmark 250th anniversary, offering a perfect moment for reflection on our shared history through the power of art

What Does Independence Mean to You? 🎨

That’s the powerful question MMoA is exploring in our upcoming program, Art Talk: What Does Independence Mean to Me?

Thursday, July 9 | 6:30 PM

Join us for an evening of deep reflection on the power of creative expression and the diverse narratives that shape our shared history.

The Inspiration

Back in 1974, the Kent Bicentennial Portfolio challenged twelve visionary artists to interpret the concept of independence without restriction. The results were as varied, complex, and beautiful as the country itself.

The Panelists

How do those iconic artworks connect to our lives today? Our incredible lineup of local leaders, creators, and thinkers will bridge the gap between historic art and our modern community:
Moderated by Dr. Kern Jackson | Soynika Edwards-Bush – Educator/Artist | Connie Hudson (Mobile County Commissioner) | Frank Ledbetter – Artist | Merceria Ludgood (Mobile County Commissioner) | Wanda Sullivan – Spring Hill Professor/Artist | Tony Wright – USA Professor/Artist

Come ready to listen, reflect, and perhaps discover what independence truly means to you.
