It was great having students from Vigor High School/Official at Government Plaza this week! They joined us for Tuesday’s Pre-Council meeting to get a firsthand look at how local government works and how decisions are made for our city.

We appreciate them taking the time to learn, ask questions, and see the process up close. The more our young people understand how local government works, the better prepared they are to get involved and help shape Mobile’s future!

MOBILE, AL - In the last couple of days, we have all learned the City of Mobile has been the target of a criminal scheme that resulted in the transfer of nearly $15 million in City funds to a fraudulent entity. We are just as concerned as all of you about the wide ranging impact this will have on our city and our community. We continue asking questions of the Administration to find out what happened, who will be held responsible and what steps will be taken to prevent this from happening again.

We appreciate Mayor Cheriogotis and his team for taking responsibility and being transparent. While there are multiple ongoing investigations including internal and external, ultimately our hope is to find those responsible and safeguard taxpayer funds in the future.

During this morning’s City Council meeting, Vice President Gina Gregory (District 7) presented a proclamation to the Mobile County Health Department to recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Her own experience is a reminder of why awareness, early detection, and support matter so much.

This is a good time to talk with your healthcare provider about the screenings that are right for you and remind your loved ones to do the same. Early detection matters, and it could save a life.

Councilwoman Samantha Ingram (District 2) and Councilman Cory Penn (District 1) attended last night’s Safer Communities Initiative meeting at Rickarby Community Center for a conversation about public safety and the issues residents are dealing with every day.

Residents shared concerns about blighted properties, litter, and safety in their neighborhoods. Hearing directly from the people who live here is an important part of figuring out what needs attention and what steps we can take to address it.
