A Mobile County jury has found Quicheay Williams guilty for the 2025 attack on Jasmine Clausell that left Clausell with third-degree burns.

We are grateful to the jury for carefully considering the evidence and holding the defendant accountable.

The State was represented by Assistant District Attorney Richard Taylor Jr. and Trial Coordinator Carla Nealy.

Williams is scheduled to be sentenced on October 14, 2026.

Closing out the first week of Trial Season late Friday afternoon, a Mobile County jury found Aubrey Pate guilty of Reckless Manslaughter in the 2022 death of Victor Birch.

Pate was indicted and tried for Murder. Following careful deliberations, the jury returned a guilty verdict on the lesser-included offense of Reckless Manslaughter.

“This case is a devastating reminder that choosing to drive after consuming alcohol and drugs can have irreversible consequences,” said District Attorney Keith Blackwood. “Victor Birch did nothing wrong. He was simply driving down the road when his life was taken because of the reckless decisions of another person."

Victor Birch was a longtime postal worker, an avid runner, and a beloved member of the Mobile community.

Walter Thames has been sentenced to the maximum 20 years in prison for the 2025 shooting of Patricia Odoms.

A Mobile County jury convicted Thames of provocation manslaughter in May. Yesterday, Judge Windom imposed the maximum sentence at the State’s recommendation.

“Patricia Odoms lost her life because of the defendant’s actions, and we are pleased that he has been held accountable to the fullest extent of the law,” said District Attorney Keith Blackwood.

Devonta Hall has been convicted of Intentional Murder in the 2023 shooting death of LeCharles King, along with Shooting into an Occupied Vehicle and Reckless Endangerment.

This marks our second conviction in the first week back of trial season as our prosecutors continue working to hold violent offenders accountable and secure justice for victims and their families.

The State was represented by Assistant District Attorneys Clayton Williams and Katherine Wick, Trial Coordinator Anabel Sheppard, Victim Service Officer Reagan Frost, and MCDA Investigators Robbie Morrow and Chief Donald Boykin.

Trial Season is back and a Mobile County jury has convicted Desiree Holiday of Intentional Murder in the 2024 shooting death of Ja’Curtis Robinson.

The evidence presented at trial established that on March 3, 2024, Holiday shot Robinson in the back, causing his immediate death. Desiree Holiday faces 20 years to life in prison and will be sentenced September 30.

The State was represented by Assistant District Attorney Coy Morgan and Trial Coordinator Shyla White.

Since taking office, truancy is down 66% and chronic absenteeism is down 59%.

As a new school year begins this week, we’re building on that progress and continuing our work to make sure every student has the opportunity to succeed. That starts with being in the classroom, every day.

Today is not a day that brings anyone in law enforcement satisfaction. It is, however, a step toward repairing the trust that has been broken between the citizens of Prichard and the Prichard Police Department.

Yesterday, I convened a Special Mobile County Grand Jury that returned indictments against Prichard Police Chief Walter Knight and Major Aaron Tucker following an ongoing investigation by my office into alleged misconduct within the Prichard Police Department.

In addition to the indictments, the Grand Jury issued a public report recommending significant reforms, including the removal of the police chief and the rebuilding of the department using nationally recognized accreditation standards.

I have provided copies of the Grand Jury's findings and recommendations to every member of the Prichard City Council. The decisions that come next belong to the elected leaders of the City of Prichard. The recommendations made by the Grand Jury are extraordinary, but so are the circumstances that led to them.

To the citizens of Prichard, I want to say this directly: You deserve a police department that is professional, accountable, and worthy of the tremendous public trust placed in every law enforcement officer. That is not too much to ask.

This investigation is not over. These indictments represent the evidence developed to this point. In the interest of public safety and maintaining confidence in our justice system, we believed it was important to present that evidence now rather than wait until every aspect of this investigation was complete.

The investigation remains active, and today's actions are not the end of this process. We remain committed to supporting the citizens of Prichard every step of the way.

Protecting our community requires more than enforcing the law. It requires continually looking for better ways to administer justice.

Today, District Attorney Keith Blackwood announced Alabama's first Repeat Violent Offender Docket will begin August 1. This first-of-its-kind docket assigns qualifying repeat violent offender cases to one judge with the goal of bringing them to trial within one year of arrest.

When someone has already been convicted of a serious violent offense and is accused of committing another violent crime, we owe it to victims, to law enforcement, and to the people of Mobile County to ensure those cases receive the focused attention they deserve.

We are proud to share that Mobile County District Attorney Keith Blackwood has been named the 2026 District Attorney of the Year by the Alabama District Attorneys Association.

The award recognizes outstanding leadership, service to the profession, and a steadfast commitment to justice.

Since taking office in 2023, DA Blackwood and the team at the Mobile County District Attorney's Office have eliminated the COVID-era case backlog, significantly reduced the office's pending caseload, implemented the Helping Families Initiative—resulting in a 66% reduction in truancy and a 59% reduction in chronic absenteeism—helped expand Drug Court and reinstate Veterans Court, secured additional public safety funding, successfully advocated for legislation to strengthen Alabama's mandatory reporting law and improve public safety, and worked every day to build a stronger, safer Mobile County.

"This isn't an individual award—it's a reflection of the incredible people I have the privilege of serving alongside every day," Blackwood said. "I'm honored to work with a team that is passionate about serving victims, pursuing justice, and making Mobile County a safer place."
