Andre Landrum has been sentenced to two Life sentences following his convictions for R**e First Degree and Burglary First Degree as well as 30 years in prison for R**e Second Degree.

His convictions stem from a 1997 cold case. DNA evidence collected at the time of the crime ultimately led investigators to Landrum decades later, resulting in his conviction and sentencing.

Jaymon Johnson has been sentenced to 25 years in prison following his convictions for Murder, Attempted Murder, Assault First Degree, Shooting into an Occupied Vehicle, and two counts of Reckless Endangerment stemming from a deadly 2023 drive-by shooting that claimed the life of Dajarra Jackson.

A Mobile County jury previously found Johnson guilty on all counts after evidence showed he opened fire on a vehicle occupied by several juveniles, killing Jackson and injuring a 15-year-old victim.

"Dajarra Jackson lost her life because of a senseless act of violence, and several young people were placed directly in harm's way," said District Attorney Keith Blackwood.

Pursuant to the authority granted under Alabama law, I have requested that Sheriff Paul Burch and the Mobile County Sheriff's Office assume responsibility for investigating crimes within the City of Prichard. As part of that effort, evidence currently in the custody of the Prichard Police Department will be cataloged and transferred to the Mobile County Sheriff's Office for review and preservation.

There are dozens of state criminal cases that may be directly affected by the conduct alleged against Prichard Police Officer Emmanuel Dotch, and the broader impact extends to cases pending throughout the City of Prichard. My office is actively reviewing those matters alongside the Sheriff's Office, the Mayor of Prichard, and our state and federal law enforcement partners to determine the appropriate course of action in each case.

My office is also examining previously dismissed cases that may have been impacted by the alleged conduct. Where the facts and law support further action, we will take the appropriate legal steps.

The people of Prichard deserve a law enforcement community they can trust. Our priority is ensuring that legitimate cases move forward, victims are not forgotten, and the integrity of the criminal justice system is maintained.

Today, a Mobile County jury found Deangelo Merrill guilty of Reckless Manslaughter, Burglary First Degree, and Certain Persons Forbidden to Possess a Pistol in the death of James Jones.

James Jones was an innocent man who lost his life when Merrill forced his way into his home while seeking retaliation against someone else. No disagreement or desire for revenge justifies this kind of violence.

Today, a Mobile County jury found Faith Academy guidance counselor Carrie Meredith guilty of Failure to Report.

Alabama's mandatory reporting law exists to protect children. When concerns about possible abuse or sexual misconduct involving a child come to light, the law requires those concerns to be reported so trained professionals can investigate and determine what has occurred. That responsibility is not optional, and today's verdict reinforces that principle.

Teachers, counselors, and school employees are often the first line of defense in protecting vulnerable children. When mandatory reporters fail to act, critical information may never reach the agencies charged with investigating and safeguarding children.

I want to thank the jurors for their service and careful consideration of the evidence. My office remains committed to enforcing Alabama's mandatory reporting laws and ensuring that those entrusted with the welfare of children fulfill their legal responsibilities.

A Mobile County jury has found Stephen Davis Jr. guilty of Manslaughter in the 2018 death of Carol Dowdlan.

Evidence presented at trial this week showed that Dowdlan died after being stabbed multiple times during a domestic dispute at the couple's shared apartment. Davis was originally charged with Murder, and the jury returned a verdict on the lesser-included offense of Manslaughter.

The State of Alabama was represented by Assistant District Attorney Sarah Ensor, Trial Coordinator Melissa McCracken, Investigator Todd Partin, and Victim Service Officer Leigha Arthur.

Today, my office announced that a Mobile County Grand Jury returned an additional three-count indictment against former Mobile County Sheriff's Office Sergeant Daniel Holifield, charging him with Theft of Property First Degree by Deception.

These charges are separate from the 13-count indictment previously returned against Holifield in August 2025. As with any criminal case, the indictment reflects the Grand Jury's determination that sufficient evidence exists for the case to move forward through the judicial process.

When someone is entrusted with serving the public, that position carries a responsibility to uphold the law and act with integrity. Allegations that a public servant used that position for personal gain strike at the heart of the trust our community places in its institutions.

My office will continue to follow the evidence wherever it leads and seek accountability for any criminal conduct uncovered. No one is above the law, regardless of position or title.

Holifield is expected to be arraigned in Mobile County Circuit Court in the coming weeks.

Darius Lucky has been sentenced to two Life Without the Possibility of Parole sentences following his convictions for the Capital Murder of 9-year-old Cailee Knight.

A Mobile County jury previously found Lucky guilty in the December 2023 shooting that claimed Cailee’s life while she was asleep inside her home.

Today, we joined law enforcement agencies from across Mobile County to honor and remember the brave officers who lost their lives in the line of duty over the past year.

These men and women made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities and to the people they swore to protect. Their courage, dedication, and commitment to public safety will never be forgotten.

The Mobile County District Attorney’s Office remains grateful for the sacrifices made every day by law enforcement officers and stands with the families, friends, and fellow officers carrying the weight of those losses.
