On National Vinyl Record Day, we are throwing it back to the history of music, hospitality, and home entertainment here in Mobile, Alabama! Long before digital streaming or even modern turntables, historic estates like the Bragg-Mitchell Mansion were well known as the area's hub for elegant social gatherings.

Ever wonder what the "back-to-school" rush looked like long before backpacks, iPads, and school buses?In the late 1800s, heading back to class in Mobile, Alabama meant crisp morning air beneath the moss-draped oaks, slates instead of notebooks, and walking along dirt roads to the local schoolhouse.
While students today are prepping their tech and modern school supplies, we like to imagine what life was like for the families right here at the Bragg-Mitchell Mansion during the late 19th century.
Built in 1855, this grand home saw generations of changing times—including the transition into the public school eras of the late 1800s. Instead of carpool lanes, children of that era carried lunch pails, practiced their penmanship with inkwells, and listened for the ring of a physical schoolhouse bell. Times have changed, but the spirit of a fresh start remains the same!

Slowing down time on a Southern porch. 🤍✨ In honor of , we are looking back at the simple pleasures of summer afternoons past.

This beautiful photo captures a couple stolen moments on the shaded veranda, complete with a classic woven hammock strung up behind them. At the Bragg-Mitchell Mansion, our expansive, wrap-around porches were built in 1855 specifically to catch the Gulf Coast breeze and offer a cool escape during the peak dog days of summer.

For over 170 years, these columns have framed generations of conversations, laughter, and quiet moments of rest. While the styles may have changed since this picture was taken, the art of taking it easy under the shade of Mobile's live oaks never goes out of style. 🌿
