Permanent repairs to the “Singing Bridge” on S.D. Highway 1806 over the Grand River are scheduled to begin in July.

On Saturday, Feb. 20, 2021, damage was identified on the Highway 1806 “Singing Bridge” located west of Mobridge and north of Highway 12 resulting in the temporary bridge closure.

“This 4,002 ft. bridge, with average daily traffic of 806 vehicles, is a vital link between Mobridge and the communities of Wakpala and Kenel on the Standing Rock Reservation,” says John Villbrandt, Mobridge Area Engineer. “SDDOT made temporary repairs in February to reopen the bridge within days to vehicular traffic and developed a timeline for permanent repairs.”

Repair work is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, July 6, at which time the bridge will be closed to all traffic. The contractor anticipates having all repairs completed and the bridge reopened to traffic by July 30.

Travelers will need to use an alternate route during the road closure.

Hi, everyone! I just wanted to let you all know that the 2013 MPD BPU Bicycle Safety Program & Bike-A-Thon will be held Monday, May 6. The presentation portion will occur during the school day at the Mobridge elementary schools for grades K through 5.

This year, instead of a Bike Rodeo, we are hosting a Bike-A-Thon at 4:00 PM at the same location as always, which is the south end of the Mobridge City Park (Main Street & 6th Street). We will be allowing youth to sign up for FREE 2013 City Bike Licenses. We will also be giving out FREE bicycle helmets to those who need them.

The Bike-A-Thon is a fundraiser for the Bike Patrol Unit to raise funds for equipment, uniforms and maintenance. The BPU is voluntary and completely funded by donations from the public. Our goal is to FINALLY purchase the two electric hub motor kits for the two police bikes that we have been working on for several years now.

Between April 23 and May 6, the Grade K through 5 students are gathering "pledge donations" from people in the community. In return the students are pledging to participate in the Bike-A-Thon, which is the six blocks around the City Park, which will be blocked off to traffic and will be monitored by volunteers, to include the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Mobridge Masons & Shriners, as well as emergency services personnel.

Participants raising at least $5.00 and completing at least one lap around the park will receive certificates good for prizes!

Feel free to attend this event to cheer on the students as they participate in our first-ever Bike-A-Thon!
