At The Dragonfly House Children’s Advocacy Center, our mission is to reduce the impact of all forms of child abuse on children, their families, and society through immediate, coordinated, and child-focused services, educa

tion, and advocacy. Our center brings every process a child must go through underneath one safe, neutral roof. 🌱 Raising Resilient Kids: Building Confidence 💙

Confidence grows through everyday moments.

Children build confidence when they are encouraged to try new things, supported through challenges, and reminded that mistakes are part of learning.

Caregivers can help children grow their confidence by:
✨ Celebrating effort, not just achievements
✨ Encouraging them to try even when something feels difficult
✨ Giving them opportunities to make choices and solve problems
✨ Reminding them, “I believe in you.”

When children feel supported and capable, they are more prepared to face challenges and keep growing.

Small moments of encouragement today can build confidence that lasts a lifetime. 💙

📱💙 Back-to-school season often means more technology — school devices, online assignments, apps, and social connections.

As children spend more time online, ongoing conversations about internet safety are an important part of keeping them safe.

Parents and caregivers can help by:
✅ Knowing what apps and websites children are using
✅ Setting clear expectations for online behavior
✅ Establishing boundaries and restrictions around technology use at home
✅ Talking about privacy and protecting personal information
✅ Reminding children they can come to you if something online makes them uncomfortable

Technology safety is about more than monitoring — it’s about creating trust, setting healthy boundaries, and helping children make safe choices online.

When children know the expectations and feel comfortable coming to a trusted adult, they are better supported when they encounter something confusing, uncomfortable, or unsafe.

💬 Beyond “How Was Your Day?” 💙

“How was your day?” is a great question — but sometimes children need a little more encouragement to open up.

After a busy day of learning, friendships, and new experiences, try creating space for meaningful conversations with your child. Small check-ins throughout the day help children feel connected and remind them that they always have a safe adult to talk to.

Try asking:
✨ “What was something that made you smile today?”
✨ “What was something that was challenging today?”
✨ “Who did you spend time with today?”
✨ “Did anything happen today that you weren’t okay with or that made you feel unsure?”

Remember, children may not always share during a scheduled conversation. Sometimes they open up during car rides, bedtime routines, or quiet moments together.

The most important thing is that children know they are loved, supported, and that their voice matters. 💙

New school year. New routines. New feelings. 💙

For some children, the first day of school brings excitement. For others, it may bring worry, nervousness, or uncertainty — and that’s okay.

One of the most important things we can do as caregivers is remind children that they can always come to us. Encourage open communication and let them know that no problem is too big, too small, or too difficult to talk about.

At the same time, because children spend many hours away from home, it is helpful for them to identify trusted adults they feel comfortable turning to while they are at school.

Ask your child:
💙 “Who are the adults at school you can go to if you need help?”
💙 “Who would you feel comfortable talking to if something is bothering you?”
💙 “Do you know that you can always tell me anything?”

A trusted adult might be a teacher, counselor, coach, family member, or another safe person in their life.

Remind children that their voice matters and that they deserve to feel safe, supported, and heard — wherever they are. 💙

✨ BIG NEWS! Our Dragonfly Supply has a brand-new home! ✨

What started as a small storage cabinet quickly grew into a single shelving unit... and now, thanks to incredible community support, it's grown into a dedicated space designed to better serve children and families across Davie and Davidson counties. 💙

The Dragonfly Supply provides everyday essentials like hygiene products, clothing, diapers, comfort items, and more to children and families when they need them most. With this expansion, we're able to organize supplies more efficiently, increase our inventory, and ensure families receive what they need.

A very special thank you to Davie Construction Co. for making a HUGE impact on this expansion. From installing all of the shelving and hardware to helping bring this vision to life, your generosity, hard work, and partnership have created a space that will serve our community for years to come.

Because of community partners like you, we're able to make sure no child or family leaves our doors without the essentials they need. 💙
