The Sea of Blue have assembled to honor this year's fallen.

‘Twas the night ‘fore Memorial, and all through the place,
Volunteers still were working with purpose and pace.
The programs were stacked and the banners hung straight,
In hopes families tomorrow would enter with grace.

The Memorial gleamed from the wax and the care,
As crews spent long hours preparing it there.
The slate walks were cleaned till they shined in the light,
After labor that carried on deep into night.

The wreaths had been placed and the flowers set right,
The flags that had flown now stood ready in sight.
The honor guards practiced each measured slow pace,
Preparing to stand with respect, pride, and grace.

Some carried supplies while some straightened each wall,
Making certain the setting gave honor to all.
For two days the crews worked through sunshine and rain,
Not seeking attention, nor glory, nor gain.

And though backs had grown tired and feet had grown sore,
There still was a mission worth striving for more.
For tomorrow brings honor to those who gave all,
Whose names will be spoken throughout Memorial Hall.

So tonight the grounds rest in the cool Carolina air,
Every tribute and detail positioned with care.
And deep in the silence, one feeling stands tall —
We remember the fallen… and we honor them all.

REMINDER!
The 2026 NC Fallen Firefighters Memorial will take place this Saturday, May 9th in historic Nash Square in Raleigh. The service will begin at 1:00 PM and is open to the public. Please join us as we celebrate the lives and legacies of 12 fallen heroes.
