08/31/2026

Beginning September 1, 2026, Davie County will discontinue the addition of fluoride to the County's public drinking water system.

The decision was made by the Davie County Board of Commissioners after considering several factors, including fluoride product availability, employee handling and safety, operational considerations, and the Board's desire to allow residents to make individual decisions regarding fluoride.

While fluoride will no longer be added during the water treatment process, fluoride occurs naturally in water. This means County water may continue to contain some naturally occurring fluoride.

To help residents understand the change and what it may mean for their families, Davie County has created a new online resource featuring frequently asked questions and information about fluoride and oral health.

The webpage includes information for families with children, adults, older adults and private well users. Residents can also learn more about fluoride supplements, preventive dental care and steps they can take to protect their oral health.

Residents are encouraged to continue regular dental care and brushing with fluoride toothpaste and to talk with their dentist, pediatrician or healthcare provider about individual fluoride needs.

Learn more and find answers to frequently asked questions at www.daviecountync.gov/fluoride.
