Juvenile Charged Following Firearm Investigation at Davie High School

The Davie County Sheriff's Office has charged a 17-year-old male juvenile with possession of a firearm on educational property following an investigation at Davie High School.
On the afternoon of August 28, 2026, the School Resource Officer assigned to Davie High School received information that a former student had been on campus earlier that morning and was in possession of a handgun. The individual remained inside his vehicle in a campus parking area, displayed the holstered handgun to several acquaintances, and then left campus. No threats were made toward any student, staff member, or the school, and the firearm was never removed from its holster.
The School Resource Officer immediately reviewed campus video surveillance and confirmed the individual's presence on campus that morning. Investigators then located the juvenile at his residence, where he was interviewed in the presence of his father. The juvenile admitted to having the handgun on school property. The firearm was seized by deputies as evidence.
The juvenile will be charged in juvenile court with possession of a firearm on educational property, a violation of N.C.G.S. § 14-269.2. Because the subject is a juvenile, no identifying information will be released, and juvenile court proceedings are confidential under North Carolina law.
At no point was there a threat to the broader school population, and normal school operations were not interrupted. The Sheriff's Office is not seeking additional suspects in this matter.

Davie County Man Charged Following Joint Investigation into Child S*x Offenses

RALEIGH — The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) has charged a Davie County man in connection with the s*xual assault of a child.

The Davie County Sheriff's Office requested the SBI for investigative assistance after receiving a report in July that a minor child had been s*xually assaulted.

Investigators conducted multiple witness and forensic interviews during the investigation. As a result, the SBI charged Joshua Lee Phipps, 42, of Davie County, with:

-- 5 counts of felony statutory s*x offense with a child by an adult
-- 4 counts of felony indecent liberties with a child

Phipps was taken into custody without incident today. He was placed under a $750,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in Davie County District Court.

The SBI thanks the Davie County Sheriff's Office and the Dragonfly House Children's Advocacy Center for their assistance with this investigation.

Sheriff J.D. Hartman announces that on August 8, 2026, the Davie County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Division and the Iredell County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Division were working in the area of Highway 64 and Interstate 40.

Detectives conducted a traffic stop on a dark-colored Ford truck after recognizing the driver as having a suspended driver's license and observing suspicious activity in the area. Detectives identified the driver as Corey Michael Stewart, male, 35 years of age, and the passenger as Christopher Lee Stephens, male, 25 years of age. Neither occupant possessed a valid driver's license.

K9 Briar was deployed to conduct an open-air sniff of the vehicle and gave a positive alert. Detectives searched the vehicle and located approximately 37 grams of methamphetamine, 1.69 grams of ma*****na, and a pair of brass knuckles, which were located on the driver.

Detectives obtained warrants for both Stewart and Stephens for the following charges:

Trafficking Methamphetamine by Possession
Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sell, or Deliver Methamphetamine
Possession of Methamphetamine
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Possession of Ma*****na up to ½ Ounce

Stewart received an additional charge of Carrying a Concealed Weapon.

The Iredell County Sheriff's Office arrested Stewart and Stephens on the warrants on August 11, 2026. Both were given a $300,000.00 secured bond. More charges may be obtained in the future.

Cooleemee Woman Charged With Six Counts of Animal Cruelty Following Davie County Sheriff's Office Investigation

On the night of August 6, 2026, Davie County Animal Services was dispatched to a report of animal cruelty at a residence on Grove Street in Cooleemee, involving a deceased animal inside the home.
Upon arrival, the responding deputy located a deceased canine along with several additional animals inside the residence. Three dogs and one domestic pet rat were removed from the home due to exigent circumstances. Investigators obtained and executed a search warrant at the residence. An additional cat was located and removed, and the remains of several deceased animals were recovered.
As a result of the investigation, Nanette Morgan Isenhour, age: 55, of the residence, was arrested and charged with four counts of felony cruelty to animals and two counts of misdemeanor cruelty to animals (N.C.G.S. § 14-360). Isenhour received a $10,000 secured bond and surrendered custody of the surviving animals to Davie County Animal Services.
The recovered animals are currently receiving veterinary care. One animal remains under a guarded prognosis.
The Davie County Sheriff's Office extends its appreciation to the Cooleemee Fire Department, Davie County Rescue Squad, Jerusalem Fire Department, Mocksville Fire Department, Davie County EMS, and the Davie County Fire Marshal's Office / Emergency Management for providing support and personal protective equipment for Sheriff's Office members throughout this investigation.

DCSO has received multiple calls today about an impersonation and intimidation scam where the caller is impersonating a DCSO deputy and threatens to arrest the citizen unless they make a payment.
THIS IS A SCAM.
Davie County Sheriff's Office will never call you asking for any kind of payment to avoid arrest or to avoid court. No deputy will contact you directly and ask for money or fines to be paid, in any manner. Scammers have the ability to mask phone numbers to even look like they are calling from government offices. They will also impersonate law enforcement in order to intimidate you. Do not give financial or personal information to anyone you are not sure of, and do not make any payments in the form of gift cards or other untraceable methods.
When in doubt, check it out. Verify information yourself before taking any action.
