Riverdale Incident
On Thursday November 6th at approximately 1420hours Burbank-Paradise Fire was dispatched to a report of a Residential Structure fire in the 2600 blk of Riverdale Ave in the southern part of the district. Initial dispatch was for BPFD and auto aid response from Westport fire. Over 15 callers reported a very large fire and sounds of explosions to 911. The incident based on the notes from dispatch Burbank personnel requested a response from our neighbor agency Modesto Fire. Upon arrival Engine 36, Westport Engine 49, and a chief officer from Stanislaus Fire Wardens office found 2 homes on fire with heavy involvement to both structures and immediate threats to neighboring homes. Due to the intensity of the fire, live power lines came down at the residences to add additional complications to the fire suppression efforts. Engines 36 and 49 immediately laid attack lines out and grabbed water supplies, beginning an aggressive attack on both structures, preventing the spread to any further homes.
In total response to this incident was 8 engines, 2 Ladder Companies, 3 chief officers, 1 safety officer, 1 ambulance crew, 2 fire investigators, and several law enforcement were at the scene to assist. Units from Burbank Paradise, Westport Fire Protection District Modesto Fire Department Stanislaus County Fire Warden's Office , Stanislaus Regional FIU, AMR Stanislaus County, and Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office. All occupants were safe and accounted for. A total of 6 animals were safely rescued and sadly one cat a 7th animal, succumb to smoke inhalation despite efforts from Crews to revive.
The occupants are being provided assistance by Red Cross at this time and the fire is currently under investigation with FIU.
One firefighter from BPFD received a minor injury on scene and was treated at scene by AMR and released. Crews remained on scene for several hours due to extensive overhaul of the structure and contents.
