At the conclusion of this past IDT weekend, Soldiers of HHC(Hammer Company)paid tribute to their outgoing commander, CPT Xia Vang, who retired after 20 years of service. CPT Nissi Robledo, Cpt Vang’s replacement, presented him with a custom made and engraved hammer in recognition of his years of service to the Army, the CalGuard and the Nightstalker Battalion.

Congratulations to SGT Blake Emery .runner2049 , Sniper Team Leader, HHC 1-184th Infantry, on his graduation from Ranger School this past Friday, 3 October 2025. SGT Emery started his career in the 184th in Charlie Rock, and later moved to HHC and completed sniper school in 2023. Despite the battalions busy summer, SGT Emery worked hard and remain trained and ready, and was a first time go on all phases or RTAC and Ranger school. Excellent work SGT Emery!

80 years ago today, April 1st, 1945, a day that happened to be both Easter Sunday and April Fools day, the 184th Infantry Regiment participated in the invasion of mainland Japan on Okinawa, and would spend the next 82 days in some of the heaviest fighting of the war.
1LT Donald Vicini, a native of Jackson, CA, who fought with the 184th through their entire WWII campaign, from guarding the Presidio after Pearl Harbor, the recapturing of the Aleutians, and through the South Pacific Island hopping campaign, was quoted as saying “It was the worst damn April Fools joke I ever heard of.”

For over 31 years, soon after the fall of the Soviet Union, the California National Guard has proudly partnered with Ukraine through the National Guard’s State Partnership Program. Back to our roots! As part of realignment of forces, companies across the battalion conducted patching ceremonies changing our current 79TH IBCT SSI to the 40th Infantry Division SSI. Patching ceremonies are unofficial rites of passage that bind soldiers and units together and foster esprit de corps.
The 184th Infantry has a early storied history with the 40th Infantry Division, having been under the division starting in 1917, until after Pearl Harbor, guarding San Francisco and the Presidio until they were moved under 7th Infantry Division for their island hopping campaigns stretching from the Aleutians all the way to mainland Japan.
