Boaters and anglers: Memorial Day weekend runs May 23-25, so expect heavy traffic around the Modoc area and congestion at the boat ramp throughout the holiday weekend. Plan extra time if you're launching. 🛥

Whether you're a first-timer or a seasoned young angler, come make fish stories worth telling. See you at the pier!

Smoke Advisory

McCormick County Emergency Services would like to advise the public that there are currently controlled burns taking place within portions of our county. These planned burns are being conducted by trained professionals as part of ongoing land and forest management efforts.

As a result, residents throughout the area may notice an increase in smoke and haze, especially during the morning and evening hours when smoke tends to settle closer to the ground. Depending on weather conditions and wind direction, smoke may travel into surrounding communities and reduce visibility in some locations.

Controlled burning is an important tool used to help reduce wildfire risk, remove excess vegetation, improve forest health, and maintain safer conditions throughout our area. While the smoke may be noticeable, these burns are planned, monitored, and conducted under strict safety guidelines.

Please use caution while driving in areas with reduced visibility due to smoke. Individuals with respiratory conditions, asthma, or other health concerns may also want to limit prolonged outdoor exposure while smoke remains in the area.

We appreciate the public’s understanding and patience as these operations are carried out to help keep our community and natural resources safe. We will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates if needed.

Big news for our department and our community 🚒❤️

Modoc Volunteer Fire Department is proud to be a recipient of the 2026 V-SAFE Grant!

This program, established by the South Carolina General Assembly, helps ensure volunteer fire departments like ours have access to the equipment and resources we need to serve safely and effectively. This year, funding was awarded to departments across all 44 counties—and we’re incredibly thankful to be included.

These funds will go directly toward essential needs like protective gear, equipment, training, and resources that strengthen our ability to respond when our community needs us most.

We’re grateful for the continued support of programs like V-SAFE and for everyone who stands behind volunteer fire departments across South Carolina.

💪 Your support helps us stay ready. Your community keeps us going.
