A Message from our SRO…

🚌 SCHOOL IS BACK IN SESSION! 🚌

As students return to the classroom, the Mogadore Police Department reminds everyone to slow down, stay alert, and watch for children in and around our schools.

⚠️ SCHOOL ZONES: Remember to reduce your speed to 20 MPH when the school zone is in effect. Speeding in a school zone can result in increased fines and penalties.

🛑 STOP MEANS STOP: Please remember that a stop sign requires a COMPLETE STOP. Rolling through a stop sign—even at a slow speed—is not stopping. Come to a complete stop, check carefully for pedestrians, bicyclists, and other vehicles, and proceed only when it is safe.

With students walking, buses running, and traffic increasing around our schools, a few extra seconds can make all the difference.

🐾 Our kids. Our community. Our responsibility.

💚 Slow down. Stop completely. Stay alert. Keep our Wildcats safe!

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Rittman Police Department and those lives touched by the senseless tragedy that they are dealing with. We are reminded how precious life is and the courage required to head in the direction of crisis. Faith is heavily tested right now for you. It is tempting to dwell on the evil that took place, but instead, “look to Jesus the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy set before him, endured the cross, despising the shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God” Hebrews 12:2. For all involved, know that you are loved by us and by a loving God who peace is sufficient for you.

With the increase in E-Scooter use, E-Bike use and illegal electric motorcycle use in the village we would like to keep the public informed of the laws that govern usage within the village.

This week the council enacted some new ordinances and changes to existing ordinances to better address the increased usage. Listed below are the major changes but not all the changes. A complete list can be found included in the Village's 7/1/26 agenda.

E-Scooters may generally be operated on public streets and roadways where bicycles are permitted with a few exceptions.

E-scooters can't be operated on a sidewalk or any path in the Village park.

They can't be operated at a speed in excess of 15 miles per hour.

They can only carry one person at any time.

They can't be operated while wearing earphones or headphones covering both ears.

They can't be modified from the original manufacture's design to increase speed or power.

Operators must be 12 years of age or older. No person under 12 is permitted to operate an e-scooter within the Village.

Operators under 14 years of age can't operate a scooter on Mogadore Rd, Gilchrist Rd, North or South Cleveland Ave or Albrecht Ave in any manor for any reason.

Operator's under 16 years of age must wear a properly fitted and fastened protective helmet that meets standards established by the Consumer Product Safety Board Commission or the American Society for Testing and Materials.

If operated between sunset and sunrise they must have a front white light that is visible from 500 feet and a rear red light or reflector visible from at least 100 feet.

Gas powered or combustion driven scooters of any kind are not permitted to be operated on any public street, sidewalk, path or public property within the Village.

E-Bikes manufactured after 1/1/20 must have a label identifying the class, top speed, and motor wattage. They can't be modified from the original manufacture's design to increase speed or power unless the label is corrected to match the changes.

Class 3 bicycles must have a speedometer that shows the speed of the bicycle in miles per hour.

No person under 12 years of age shall operate a class 1 or class 2 electric bicycle: however, a person under 12 years of age may ride as a passenger on a class 1 or class 2 electric bicycle that is designed to accommodate passengers.

No person under 16 years of age shall operate a class 3 electric bicycle; however, a person under 16 years of age may ride as a passenger on a class 3 electric bicycle that is designed to accommodate passengers.

No person under 16 years of age shall operate or be a passenger on a class 1 or class 2 electric bicycle unless the person is wearing a protective helmet that meets the standards established by the Consumer Product Safety Commission or the American Society for Testing and Materials.

No person shall operate or be a passenger on a class 3 electric bicycle unless the person is wearing a protective helmet that meets the standards established by the Consumer Product Safety Commission or the American Society for Testing and Materials.

No person under 14 years of age shall operate or use any electric bicycle, of any class, on Cleveland Avenue, Mogadore Road, Gilchrist Road, or Albrecht Road, in any manner or for any purpose.

Electric Motorcycles differ from E-Bikes in that they are not pedal assisted and for this instance the same as any other motorcycle. For any motorcycle (internal combustion or electric) unless they are properly registered, the operator holds a motorcycle endorsement or temporary learner’s permit, properly insured, and they are operated in accordance with all applicable traffic laws they are not permitted to operate on any roadway, sidewalk, or on any public property in the village. We are aware that some owners may try to modify their motorcycles to appear as if they are an E-Bike by adding non-functional pedals, they are still illegal.

Our goal is to educate the public and we will stop people in violation of the new laws and warn them if appropriate. If the operator is a juvenile, a guardian will be contacted and warned.

However, continued violation of the law or flagrant disregard for public safety may result in immediate action. The device can be towed and the operator can face further proceedings.
