Delaware Copper Mine Tours

As the season moves on we have updated many things in the gift shop. Laurie spent time over the off season looking for items uniquely to copper and the mine. Where possible we use local Artisans and Vendors to fulfil our orders. This year we have added mugs, shot glasses, hats and children's tees just to name a few. Our splash copper this season is remarkable and we have stocked up for when things get busy.

Nothing makes Laurie happier than to hear guests talk about how much they enjoy what we have to offer. So if your in the area stop by just to look around in the gift shop. You won't be the firsts to do that. As always thank all of you for visiting and supporting our efforts here in the Keweenaw.

Last night we got to meet a group from KSAR (Keweenaw Search and Rescue). We had them up to the mine to get familiar with the site in case any assistance may be needed at the mine. Two weeks ago a portion of our staff went down to the Quincy for first aid training that was put on my Matt Portfleet from the Adventure Mine. It was a great experience and reminded us we should update procedures at the Delaware. We want to thank the Keweenaw Sheriff and all those from KSAR for their time and efforts all over the Keweenaw.

We have been busy this week with over 250 students from Houghton and Hancock Elementary as well as students from Copper Island Academy. All the groups chose to participate in our Delaware MIne Match program making donations to 31 Backpacks and Simple Kindness for Youth. It is great to see young kids learning about giving back and helping others.

Sunshine and warmer weather finally found us and it is a great day for a drive up the Keweenaw. If you make the trip think of stopping in Calumet for some home made fudge at Copper World. If your more an ice cream fan visit the folks at Sundae in the Park in Mohawk. Carmel Explosion and anything chocolate fudge are my favorites.

Our first visitors yesterday for the 2026 season came all the way from Minnesota. I am sure they were up here for something other than being our fist visitors but we are please they chose to stop by.

Well the Sun is out and the snow is gone, well mostly gone. We are excited because today we are open for the season. We hope to see many of you from years past and hopefully many new people up here exploring the Keweenaw. Come check us out daily from 10am to 5pm

Well the best of plans don't always work out. We had all hands on deck trying to get things open but Mother Nature had her own idea. We still have snow and ice up here and cant safely open the mine so we have to wait till next Saturday the 16th.

Sorry to anyone who had planned on stopping by but safety comes first. We have added a lot of items to the gift shop so when you come by let us know your thoughts.

We finally made it back to the UP and another season here at the Delaware. We are hoping to open by Mothers Day but we still have some snow to dig out from. The winter was rough with over 300" of snow. We actually had to have folks shovel off the roofs because they were starting to bow.

We are going to put together a web page showing all that happened so keep an eye open for that.
