Slow Down for Construction Zones

Caltrans District 9 is actively working to improve roads throughout our area. The California Highway Patrol, Mojave Area reminds motorists to stay alert and drive safely through construction zones.

Reduce your speed, avoid distractions, and be prepared for changing traffic patterns. Give yourself extra travel time, follow posted signs, and remember: fines can be doubled in active work zones.

Drive safe and help us protect those who work to keep California moving.

Have a great weekend California! As summer break begins for many students, roads will be busier with families traveling and celebrating the start of vacation season.

Before heading out, make sure every passenger — young and old — is properly buckled up. Seatbelts save lives and remain one of the simplest ways to protect yourself and your loved ones on the road.

Drive safely, stay alert, and enjoy the start of summer!

Over the Memorial Day weekend the California Highway Patrol, Mojave Area held a Sobriety/Driver License checkpoint in Rosamond. While we appreciated seeing so many sober drivers, we did encounter three impaired drivers during the course of the checkpoint. We remind everyone that driving impaired is one of the most selfish decisions you can make.

During the course of the Holiday Enforcement Period, the CHP Mojave Area made ten DUI arrests, issued 275 citations, with approximately 350 total enforcement contacts for everything from speed to distracted driving to unsafe lane changes to improper seatbelt use. Most importantly there were zero fatal crashes.

Please drive responsibly, buckle up, and always designate a sober driver!

Increased DUI patrols

DUI crashes are 100% preventable, yet far too many lives are lost every year because someone chose to drive impaired. In California, alcohol-impaired driving fatalities remain a major problem. Nationwide, NHTSA reports nearly 12,000 people were killed in drunk-driving crashes in 2024 — about one person every 44 minutes.

No buzz is worth a life. Plan ahead, use a designated driver, call a ride share, and never get behind the wheel impaired. Look for our increased DUI patrols in Eastern Kern County. If you see an impaired or reckless driver, call 9-1-1 immediately!

Today, we celebrate all the moms who helped guide us through life with love, strength, and support. We celebrate those moms balancing the challenges of public safety, supporting loved ones on the front lines, and all moms who keep their families strong every day.

Mothers are often our first teachers, biggest supporters, and lifelong protectors. Their sacrifices and dedication help shape our families and communities every day.

From all of us, Happy Mother’s Day! We hope you have a safe, relaxing, and special day with the people you love most.

Fire Safety 🔥

As the weather warms up and vegetation dries out, it’s important to practice wildfire safety both on the road and at home. Proper vehicle maintenance, ensuring nothing is dragging underneath your vehicle, and being mindful of where you park or stop can help prevent vehicle-caused wildfires.

Maintaining defensible space around your home, knowing your evacuation routes, and having emergency kits ready to go are all essential steps to staying prepared and safe.

Follow the Kern County Fire Department and CAL FIRE social media pages to stay informed throughout wildfire season.
