High desert temperatures are here, and the heat can be just as dangerous as the road itself.

Before you head out, check your vehicle’s tires, coolant level, battery, and fluids to help prevent a breakdown in extreme heat. Always carry plenty of water for everyone in your vehicle, keep your fuel tank above half full, and never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle—even for a moment.

Stay cool, stay alert, and arrive safely. The California Highway Patrol, Mojave Area wishes everyone a safe summer on our roadways!

Monsoonal weather may reach Eastern Kern County today and throughout the summer. Desert thunderstorms develop quickly during the summer, bringing heavy rain, strong winds, lightning, and sudden dust storms that can make driving dangerous.

If you encounter stormy conditions, slow down, increase your following distance, turn on your headlights, and never drive through flooded roadways.

A little patience can go a long way in keeping everyone safe. Drive smart and arrive safely.

Whether you’re heading to the match or watching from home, plan ahead and celebrate responsibly. Designate a sober driver before anyone starts drinking and never drive impaired. One bad choice can change everything.

Enjoy the game, cheer loud, and make sure everyone gets home safely. Make great memories today and all weekend long!
