The city has been working with the Fulton Postmaster to improve mail delivery in Mokane. The plan is to have more locations, on both sides of town, for mailboxes with individual boxes organized by street and number. After the Postmaster finalizes the map showing where they want each mailbox placed, the city will put up new posts and rails and maintain each of them. Rails will be labeled with addresses so everyone will know where each mailbox needs to be placed. Notification will be sent out with who will need moved and where each mailbox goes.

The city has sent out two mailings and gone door to door and we still need a minimum of 17 more survey packets turned in. If that doesn’t happen, sewer bills will likely triple since there will be no grants to fund the new sewer. There are over 30 people who have not turned in surveys. I was told this morning the minimum bill will be around $150 for all on the sewer if we don’t get at least 17 more surveys turned in.

Also, the city has been under wastewater enforcement for years and, in a 2018 meeting, they said Mokane has ignored the warnings about the sewer condition for too long and there will be no more forgiveness. The surveys have been mailed and people should start receiving them today. There are only 2 pages and there are not a lot of questions. It only took me a couple of minutes to complete. We have to get 80% of the sent surveys returned in order to correct the Census figure of $85,000 as the average household income. If we don’t get back 80%, of surveys, we lose eligibility for most grants and the sewer project will be primarily funded through a loan. That will definitely change the monthly sewer bill charge.
