Currently the fire sits at about ~1700 acres and we are expecting some hot and windy conditions on our arrival.

At around 8:30 am on January 15 our crew responded to a report of a single-vehicle roll-over on Mountain Ranch Road near the intersection with Rocky Road.

Upon arrival our crew found a pick-up that had left the roadway and landed on its roof in the creek. The pick-up was being driven by 19-year-old TJ Wennhold, one of our firefighters on his way to his scheduled shift here at Central Calaveras Fire.

TJ suffered fatal injuries in the crash and died at the scene.

The CHP is investigating the cause, but it appears that he hit a patch of black ice on the roadway.

This incident has deeply wounded us, and we appreciate the outpouring of support we are receiving from our community and beyond.

A celebration of life for TJ will be held on Saturday, January 25th.

After couple days of structure protection and miscellaneous assignments. Our crew and strike team has been assigned to new division and are going to be the tip of the spear attacking fire directly.

E-123 part of Calaveras task force (Mokelumne Hill, West Point, San Andreas, Murphys and us) are on their way to Los Angeles to help with the fires. 🔥🚒🇺🇸

This year has been full of excitement and hard work. Crews shuttling every corner of the state to our own calls here at home.

We are fully staffed 365 days a year and today is no different, should you need us we are just a call away. 🚒

Last weekend we had our firefighter & family Christmas party, and you may have seen bunch of our engines around town.

While many awards were passed (more on that later), we had two very special announcements:

Captain Chris Miller was promoted to batallion chief and firefighter Nick Koba was promoted to engineer!

Congratulations gentleman, very well deserved!
